  1. I saw this on an old list from 1984 - price £3!! I didn't know it then.
  2. Yes that's right Mike. It takes bloody ages unless you've got broadband.
  3. I think it was Chuck Stanley who covered "Day By Day" - Tashan's label mate on Def Jam.
  4. I heard it last night on Richard Searling's show. Good tune but the vocal is terrible imo.
  5. Well put Simon. There's plenty of very good compilation CDs out there. It's slowed down a bit during the last 4 years or so but I guess that's inevitable. They've helped me hear all sorts of great songs that I would never have done otherwise. Grapevine are putting out some marvelous stuff. There are some rubbish ones too, as mentioned above, but it's niot difficult to suss them out. Btw, I thought The Cleethorpes Story Cd was very good. I never went, so I can't comment if it did the venue justice but musically the CD stands up imo.
  6. didn't he organise one of the German weekenders recently? That'll be when he booked Terry, Jo, etc
  7. Good post Mr funky4u. Some excellent tunse mentioned. BTW, it doesn't sound like Kenny Bobien singing on Lenny Fontana's "Spread Love" to me.

  9. I bought the 20th Century release by mistake and was disappointed. :-(
  10. I think you'll find this is a bona fide release. I don't see why it shouldn't be posted on this site.
  11. That sounds brilliant. I would love to hear someone try a set like that these days. I think I'd nominaet Richard Searling for someone with broad all era taste and has pushed music no matter what the date of the tune is.
  12. I'd agree with that assessment John.
  13. Personally I've never liked this and hated the Popcorn Wylie songs even more. "Rosemary What Happened" is worse than Footsee imo. But then again, I never went to Wigan and never experienced hearing them at the time and place.
  14. I got the CD yesterday and I quite like it. If nothing else, it's made me re-appreciate (if there's such a word) how good the originals are - particularly "Keep On' Truckin'"
  15. The London scene isn't as vibrant as it was 4 or 5 years ago. I don't think it's realistic that it would ever continue to be like that. I don't get out much myself these days due to a mixture of apathy and financial and family reasons. I'm sure many other people are the same. It'll bounce back though. There's plently of good people, like Mark H, who get off their backsides and get things going. It's bloody hard work though, and soemtimes they need a break.
  16. Patti Labelle and Teddy Pendergrass at Live Aid. How shite was that!
  17. "Quiet storm" mix is the mix I meant - I think.
  18. Phil, It's on a CD called Street Soul 2. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page on the link below and buy: https://www.crazybeat.co.uk Cheers Dave
  19. I've heard it out and about a few times. As you say a great record - there are some dodgy mixes on the 12" though. I think the best mix is the slowjam mix or something similar to that.
  20. So why not post up its true identity then?
  21. I found the link Karen - cheers!
  22. Gene, thanks for that. I've heard the latter rumour too plus other variations and I don't suppose we'll ever know the truth. If anyone else has something of substance to add, I'd be very interested.
  23. Don't worry Janine, it's a 60s track. His 70s stuff is much, much better though.
  24. I used to go to a load of gigs but the ones I've enjoyed most were; Anita Baker / Perri - Wembley 1990 Stevie Wonder - Royal Albert Hall 1993 Bill Withers / Pieces Of A Dream / Gerald Albright - Hammy O- 1989 Prince (Lovesexy tour) - Wembley 1988 Jean Carne - Dominion 1988
