  1. The Willie Hutch version is pretty good too.
  2. Aaarrghh! Awful record. There must've been some interest though for Pye Disco Demand to issue it?
  3. I think Otis is the greatest soul singer of all time. He epitomises soul music. He wasn't the most technically gifted but the sheer guts, power and emotion you can't beat him.
  4. Soon to be honoured on Radio 2 too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/gambleh...ndex_live.shtml
  5. Actually, I thought the 6Ts Housparty mix on Inferno over 20 years ago was really well done. As Bobby Patterson said, "Let's so something different................"
  6. Great thread. Some from me: Meli'sa Morgan - Heart Breaking Decision Perri - I'm The One Chapter 8 - Stronger Love Body - Middle Of The Night Mini Curry - 100% (I don't mind a bit of Michael J. Powell ) Mille Scott- Every Little Bit William Bell - Headline News Willie Clayton - Your Sweeness Steven Dante - Love Follows I could go on & on & on........ No synthesized crap there
  7. Al Broomfield, Eugene Wilde and Dee Dee Wilde. Plus many other talented family members.
  8. Loads of great soul in the 80s. It was the decade that brought us Anita Baker, for God's sake! Ok, so there better known stuff had it's awful moments but there's lots of excellent stuff there too, and you don't have to look that far. Maybe, I'm a bit biased because I was a young lad in the 80s and strikes a chord with me but people shouldn't label it as being a crap decade because of one particular type of sound.
  9. What's the channel No. Kev?
  10. Strangely enough, I was liked The Sharonettes, particularly the manic laughing during the introduction. The winner (loser?) has got to be something that most people know and completely misrepresents the music - Footsee. Cornell Gunter and Jerry Butler are just great soul records.
  11. Some of her stuff is quite good (Change) but 8-3-1 is rubbish imo lol. I really can't understand the popularity of this song particularly as there was so much other excellent stuff released around that time. 2001 will be noted as a golden year in the future!
  12. I always thought it was an old record until I read this thread - definite Julie Driscoll type sound as the article said. A bit weird really - doesn't really fit in with the other songs on No Angels.
  13. Sorry Colin but you're right - can't beat Marvin's version although Donny does a very good turn, as you'd expect.
  14. Yep, enjoyed that Geoff. Anyone got an ra of this Mr Dynamite tune then please?
  15. The "Just Ain't Good Enough" LP got a CD release in the last two years. You should be able to pick up either for a tenner.
  16. Can anyone put an mp3 or suchlike up of this please.
  17. Can't be much more than £3, I'd have thought. Great record.
  18. That's right Pete. I think it's great that they get played in northern rooms but can't understand why it's just a few of this type and why it has to be vinyl. It's different to the older records because the CD is the original release and you can't much more for your money - particularly in the case of the Al Green CD.
  19. I still don't understand why a 12" would be more sought after and more expensive than a CD, just because the room playing the song doesn't have the equipment to play a CD. The CD contains more songs (great, solid CD in this case) and is easier and cheaper to find. The CD is the original release too.
  20. That's what I thought. There's nothing wrong with the CD mix (on "Don't Look back") - it's fantastic. Can't believe that the 122 is much of an improvement and certainly not worth shelling much more for.
  21. Her new CD is supposed to be brilliant. I've not heard it myself so would be grateful for any reviews. "His Hands" (title track) is the killer track, apparantly. It's even got a rave review in the Daily Mirror today (not that necessarily means much lol!)
  22. Thanks for putting that up. I enjoyed it. My only criticism is that you wasted two minutes focusing on Wigan, which has been done countless times before. Much more interesting to see the recent footage and hear the young girl describe why she loves the music.
  23. I'd vote for Levi too. Did he ever make a solo record? Aside from The Little Shop of Horrors thing (which doesn't count lol)
  24. Have to agree the self titled CD that came out on Honest Johns is top quality southern soul.
