  1. Thanks for this. I've got a few of those CDs (the Omar Cunningham is very good) but this gives me a good steer for other ones to check out.
  2. I'd agree that's it's not strange. When you're really enthusiastic with something it usually goes around in cycles. A break can do the power of good or trying a different genre of (soul) music.
  3. Very fond memories of this from The Dome. Awesome tune.
  4. Thanks Mark. I wonder what the "Wonderwoman" record is that they referred to?
  5. Never?!? I didn't know that. What an amazing experience that must've been. I had a dream last night that Maze played in my local, The Kestral. Best live acts in a northern venue I've seen were: Prince Phillip Mitchell - Fleetwood Maxine Brown - Cleethorpes Edwin Starr - various but the first time I saw him at the King Charles Hotel, Gillingham was special.
  6. Ashford & Simpson and I'll second Smokey Robinson (certainly the best lyricist!)
  7. Cheers. Quite good isn't it?
  8. Can anyone put this up so I can listen to it please?
  9. You Brought It On Yourself - Barbara Hall (Innovation 2) Dave Dixon Chatham
  10. Steve, Thanks for starting this thread. Very interesting. I've got a Wales Wallace issue too. I can't remember what's on the flip but I'll dig it out later.
  11. It's got a five star review in the Daily Mirror today.
  12. Yeah, I've got it. I haven't played it for a few years and it's quite good but there's an awful lot better from the same period imo. Stuff like Dennis Ferrer, Michelle Weeks, Colonel Abrams, Erro, Stephanie Cooke, Blaze, Louis Benedetti and others I can't remember right now.
  13. It's quite good isn't it, but there's a lot more stuff out there that's even better. It's just the tip of the iceberg!
  14. I believe the Kings Hall, Stoke allnighters are like that, although I've not been for a few years.
  15. Another well researched show
  16. I saw it last Weds too. Excellent show. There was a scene that showed them doing backing vocals for a black singer before they hot the big time. Any idea who that was supposed to be?
  17. Good story Pete. I'm pleased that someone got something good/unusual out of Grammar School Records in Rye, because I've never had any luck there.
  18. Yes, Russ it came out on 12" too - after the CD release
  19. Steve, It may have been recorded in 1980 (and even been released at the time but I'm not sure). Expansion put it out on a 45 later because of it's popularity and to co-incide with their Best Of Jeffree CD. I don't think it qulaifies for this list Dave
  20. Does The Chesterfields on Grapevine count? I understand that was previously unissued. Also, the Jeffree "Love Loan" shouldn't count because it appeared on his CD a few years before.
  21. Monster tune!!
  22. Lol. Glad you liked them. I think he's quality.
  23. I think John Legend's Get Lifted CD is one of the CDs of the decade. I would've thought that songs like PDA and Each Day Gets Better from the Once Again CD would be your cup of tea Ian?
  24. As far as I can recall, the Rocket was set up to compete with the exisiting London clubs. They had, until that point, co-operated and supported each other. It was set up the night after the Dome after didn't get a DJ spot there. Despite the bad feeling that was going on at the time I went to the opening night of the rocket because it had a nuch needed modern room in the capital. Sadly, it wasn't very good so I never returned.
  25. That's not the track listing on my CD. I thik I have Razzy instead of Jimmy Thompson as the last track. Anyway, excellent CD!
