  1. Totally speechless
  2. Stevens & Foster "I Want To Be Love". I love the high pitch ad lib vocals as it fades out.
  3. It got into the UK charts at the time so there must be plently around in boot fair sales. Still a good record though and from a great LP!
  4. I wouldn't mind "I'm In Love" too please.
  5. Both. I think a good local DJ and a big name can offer something interesting -sometimes the local DJ even more so if you're comparing the to an oldies DJ.
  6. Did Billy Ocean get played at Wigan "Red Light...." and "Love Really Hurts....."?
  7. It's a good 'un allright!
  8. I think you'll be lucky Steve. I go over there fairly regularly and know of nothing. It'll be interesting to see if anyone tells us something new.
  9. What's the full track listing please?
  10. Join the EMS forum at www.essentialmodernsoul.co.nr . Check out the Media section and someone might upload an mp3 of the show each week.
  11. Yes mate https://www.smoothradionorthwest.co.uk/
  12. Here's a download of the first two hours. It doesn't include the cellar of soul bit with the 60s and northern in it. A guy on the EMS forum kindly did this. https://rapidshare.com/files/217431401/rs040409.mp3
  13. Apologies if this has been mentioned already but how about Velvet Hammer's "Happy". It seemd to going through another revival at the moment. It's incredibly popular and sounds like nothing else - personally I've never got it!
  14. The modern room at the King's Hall Stoke was the biz from 1996-2001. Winsford modern room too around 2001-2.
  15. It's a different song isn't it? I've only heard the Vince Broomfield once so I'm not 100% but I certainly didn't recognise it as the Evelyn King song.
  16. If you mean modern (recently released) soul, then I like these Lamone - Your Eyes Lisa Shaw - Honey Little Beaver - She's Gone Dionyza - Today Will Soon Be Yesterday Q Harper - Do Want You Want To Do Again However, if you mean oldies then these still sound good: Universal Love - It's You Girl Stephanie Mills - You Can't Run From My Love The O'Jays - To Prove I Love You Rockie Robbins - Point of View Loleatta Holloway - I Can't Help Myself
  17. Denise LaSalle did a very good version of this around 7 years ago.
  18. The version on the CD which came out last year is identical the very first Muthafunkas ft. Marc Evans release which came out on a Hustle 12" a few years ago.
  19. Sorry to be a thickie but what's the difference between a direct drive and a belt drive? I know what a belt drive is but am not sure what you mean by direct drive.
  20. What's wrong with the CD?
  21. It's all to do with the fact that the music is around 45 years old now - i.e. almost ancient. It's incredible that it's lasted this long and is a fine testament to the wonderful records. Will people be interested in numbers in ten years time if the northern soul scene remains mainly 60s based? I think not.
  22. I heard this at Prestwich in December. Very nice. I don't know why anyone would buy a promo record though if it ever came out, in view of the fact the CD is easily available and you can get on iTunes for 79p.
  23. I don't think Soul night takins have been worth their while. However, I remember hearing recently about connections between the mob and Roulette records. I hadn't heard this before but I guess it's not surprising given the label's name. I think a lot of Chicago labels were effected too. I'd be interested to hear more about this.
  24. I've always enjoyed Sam's sets. I remember he was playing some good new releases in the mid 90s before he gave up that style. I particularly remember him hammering Bobby Rich, so I'll go for that.
  25. I first heard it at the 100 Club around 1997 when Pete Lowrie was on. He announced it as being by Diana Ross. I think it's a wonderful record.
