  1. Get the CD for Holdin' On
  2. RIP Fontella. I always loved Recovery and even Travellin' from her CD 11 years ago.
  3. i prefer the flip!
  4. Bobby Womack on Sunday hopefully.....
  5. Or piling into everyone at the bar
  6. Yes, that's right Barry. If you've already voted on Q1 but now want to answer the other two, you have to delete your vote and start again. Good poll. Very interesting.
  7. It's not there anymore Mike
  8. I love it! Proper disco is fantastic
  9. Sad to hear this. Loving You Is Mellow is a wonderful example of his output. RIP.
  10. A bit longer than that I think. As far as I can recall, it was released to co-incide with the 1st After Hours CD which must have been 9 years ago.
  11. I bet it's not as good as "Show and Tell"
  12. It is true. When I walked into the Village Soul do on Saturday, Lenny Curtis was blasting out and it sounded fantastic. It amy be that I hadn't heard it for years or just the first time I've heard it out, but it sounded much better. Btw, Kegsy, Do It To My Mind has always been a great record . Someone will now say that about Lenny Curtis

    Village Soul Is Back

Well it was a cracking night. Great room, terrific sound system and some of the best music ever recorded!
  14. What happens when you got an odd one in round two? Surely you need 64 songs to make it a knock out competition?
  15. Excellent — thanks Rob. I’d be really interested to read a part two on his post Motown years.
  16. That's what i thought. It would be great to see a film about them with a soundtrack inculding Gotta Have Your Love, Slow Fizz, etc.
  17. I was actually referring to Swingbeat rather than Street Soul Nick. Nothing wrong with Loose Ends, btw
  18. Agree with Jock. Most swingbeat stuff was rubbish but you do get the occasional LP track which was great e.g. Jeff Redd — Love High, Keith Sweat — Make Love Last Forever.
  19. The Dome in London used to finish with Jimmy Ricks “Oh! What a Feeling” which always sounded good. Wasn’t the most used ender at These Old Shoes Jimmy Ruffin’s “Everyone Needs Love”?
  20. You haven’t got that aspect wrong Russ, but times have moved on. It is now 2012, technology and other ways of life have moved on considerably, the music is now over 40 odd years old and the format is almost dead (it’s incredible it’s lasted that long!). I agree with some of the things you say, but the way you’re expressing your view is alienating yourself and other like-minded people from most regular folk who already perceive it to be an “up its own arse” scene. Phrases like ethics and giving back to the scene make me cringe because it’s not life and death and it’s certainly not some worthy cause. It’s supposed to be fun! It may have felt like something cool and underground quite some time ago but it hasn’t been like that for a long time. It’s full of fat, middle-aged to old blokes who can’t dance very well. Nothing to stop them still having a good time. It’s become a parody of itself and all these indignant put downs of anyone who doesn’t share the same view, doesn’t help.
  21. I think it was only a very small handful of collectors that made a fuss over Gregory Porter. And it was totally unwarranted too as the label design was different and Gregory is a living, working artist. I've got this 45 and it wouldn't bother me one jot if you issued more due to demand but I'm probably in an easy going minority. I don't recall any vitriol over not releasing an mp3 of Audio, but certainly comments were made. I still think it's a good idea for all your releases. It won't devalue the 45s, makes them more accessible, additional revenue for you and enables the likes of me to be able to listen to it more often.
  22. Majestics for the intro. I used to hate this record but have grown to love it now.
  23. I agree with Jock!! JoLynn Murray - now there's a tune!
