  1. HMVs are almost as hard to find as record shops these days
  2. Oh dear. If this is among the best of the recent rare discoveries, we must've passed the best a long time imo. It's alright but nothing special.
  3. I can't get this episode to download from my iTunes subscription Mick. Is there a problem with the file?
  4. I've got mixed feelings about the concert. When they were good, they were awesome. Particularly when they sang My Favourite Person and Darling, Darling Baby - they had the place rocking. I didn't think the playlist was exactly what I wanted. They didn't sing some key songs like Message In Our Music and Put Our Heads Together. The performances were great from all three. I was particularly impressed with Walter Williams. I was disappointed that the show was a bit short and there was no encore. For £50 you'd think you'd get that. I still had a great time though.
  5. £17?!!!
  6. Is it just me but I didn't think they were that great on Jools Holland. Ages has taken its toll unfortunately. Hopefully, they'll be great when I see them tonight with a proper concert setting.
  7. It's Lou Rawls "Dead End Street"
  8. That Japanese cover version clip is hilarious. It's terrible in one way but quite brilliant in another. It put a smile on my face too. I see Frank Wilson also got played at Anfield last night immediately after the final whistle.
  9. Straighten It Out by Rahsaan Patterson on the After Hours CD is not listed and is an absolute killer.
  10. RIP Bob. So many great songs. Jessica James & The Outlaws "We'll Be Makin' Out" springs to mind. I'm surprised his passing hasn't had more news coverage.
  11. I used to get hand written lists from Paul Depsi around 1984/5. Lots of great stuff there and I dread to think of the stuff I passed on because I didn't know them at the time. I was only in my early teens so £8 for a "Quick Change Artist" on Karen was a big ticket purchase for me at the time. Especially as my mates only bought stuff on reissue labels like Inferno, etc.
  12. Thanks Chris. Yeah, I love it too.
  13. Is this the same song that's also known as "I Want To Hold Your Hand"?
  14. Two weeks to go. Here's a new release that might get you in the mood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssoxXkEPLHs
  15. Anyone who thinks there is going to be anything remotely like a "Quadrophenia" effect following this film is living in Dreamland I'm afraid. The film won't be that popular amongst the general public and music that is almost 50 years old isn't going to inspire youngsters to go to a do every week. Even if it did a little bit, they'd probably be put off my sneering old gits who take a dim view of having a different slant on things
  16. I like Gregory Porter. "On My Way to Harlem" is fantastic. "1960 What" is not. It's a bloody mess imo. A pretty tuneless one at that. Not everything that Soul Sam plays is great unfortunately. Particularly when it comes to new material.
  17. Yeah it's not a good cover. Not sure if it's the worst thing he's done. That's probably "1960 What"
  18. I only bought this myself last week. Great album. Standing By Your Side is my fave so far.
  19. is the mix downloadable?
  20. I notice that even the recent Northern soul book only devoted about <20% of its content on post Wigan.
  21. I've always liked it. Great song and great production and I think it's well sung.
  22. No sorry, I haven't seen it before. I'd love to hear the bonus tracks though.
  23. And Caister . It looks really good. never been to the Brooklyn Bowl before.
  24. How about Earl van Dyke's "All For You" over Marvin Gaye's "Lucky Lucky Me"? Not sure this strictly counts as the MG was unreleased until a long time after.
  25. Is it this one? https://www.amazon.com/This-Loves-Real-Chapter-8/dp/B0014Z4LBE/ref=sr_1_5_title_0_main?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1407829320&sr=1-5&keywords=chapter+8 Fantastic LP as is all of Michael J. Powell's 80s stuff.
