Hi Ian Sorry to have mis- Led you Ian it was the day after I went into the Church. The thing was in those days there wasn't the current pre-occupation with major label issues as there seems to be now, just to have a copy of a record was sufficient. I didn't even keep a copy of Tony Middleton as I had a Polydor copy at the time. Didn't even know about Bostock's at the time, it was only when I relayed the story of my find to John Anderson some time later that he said it was probably part of the Bostock's deal. He also told me that the first Salvadors "Stick By Me Baby" (50 copies) and Kenny Smith "Oh Lord,What's Happening etc"(50 copies) came out of the Bostock's load. I also remmember a similar story John told me of another load he got from the west coast and sold on to Paul Bostock, though not before he removed 800 copies of Larry Atkins "Lighten Up" Highland and 200 copies of Len Jewel "All My Good,Good Lovin' Pzazz, etc Dave Welding

Hi Dave Some of Bostock's stock also appeared further afield than Bradford, some of the MGM load reached a disused church in Cradley Heath in the West Midlands. The ex church in question was being used to sell fire damaged and redundant stock at the time. A friend of mine told me a load of import records had turned up in there and he had found a copy of Spyder Turner "I Can't Make It Anymore" MGM for 10p . Next time I was passing I popped in for a look found a couple of Spyder Turner's, a Righteous Bros "Rat Race" and a copy of the Broadway's Sweet & Heavenly Melody. I then asked the proprietor if he had anymore, he pointed to the upstairs pews saying "if you want to climb up there, there's a few more boxes buried under a pile of bed mattresses". So up I go, waded through these other boxes found copies of Terri Bryant" Geni "and Straighten Up Etc" Verve. Copies of every Howard Tate On Verve, about 20 or more Spyder Turner's, copies of both Broadway's on MGM and to top it off 13 copies of Tony Middleton To The Ends Of The Earth. I Sold the Tony Middleton's for £3.00 each, the Spyder Turners for £1.50 each as both were being played by Minshull and Evison respectively at Wigan at the time. Hi Ted Harpo's your man to ask about Chris Plant the last I heard of him someone bumped into him working for a waste management company. Harpo's Old Vic Reunion's always clash with Cleethorpe's so sadly always miss 'em. In the early 80's Chris was right up there with the best of them, and the old Vic was probably the leading soul night in the countrywith Chris as the main man. Didn't you get Larry Clinton off him. The vocal version although originally credited to Otis Leavill later came out on a Grapevine cd Chigago Soul Survey 3027 credited as a demo cut by Carl Davis. Don't know what all the fuss is about, when all these songs where released and can be bought off e-bay for less than the total shipping costs to bring these tapes over. Spoke to Ernest this morning who knows nothing about this? These tapes may have come the Sound Suite Studios which closed recently due to reputed, financial difficulties, reputedly there where tapes left in the building? Hi Guys Chuck Ray used to be a frequent give away in Soul Bowl soul packs nobody wanted it, it was deemed too slow at the time. It wasn't until crossover became popular and as Rick Scott mentions it received spins at Thorne it gained any value. The other side "Come Alive" Came out on another Chicago label Five-O with a rather dubious funk flip I.M.O It still baffles me why this is regarded as a £300-£400 record. Dave W
