Hi Andy I have my doubt's about James Lately and Calvin Golden being one and the same based on the fact that one of the the earlier copies that went through e-bay had a hand written press release( letter of provenance) from the producer Henry Watkins Jr which pointed out that the record had a recording fault (i.e at one point the recording stops dead which be can clearly heard). The letter/press release stated that although they intended to repress the 45 with the fault corrected, they had seen fit not to do so as Calvin had recently been killed in a car crash. Did any one on soul source win it and can post it up ? Dave

Louise commented on Louise's article in News Archives
Well Nick One of the many joys of owing a record label is the amount of free advise you recieve from armchair critic's ie "you don't do enough promotion" and in your case "We do to much" promotion But hey keep up the goodwork as the old saying goes "there's no such thing as bad publicity , cheers Have a nice day Dave Soul Junction -

Soul Junction have done it again with a superb release from former Chapter 8 vocalist David Washington. The single is an interpretation of a track he wrote that was recorded by Jimmy Scott called Games. The flip is a reworking of Chapter 8's Ready For Your Love. Press Release: David Washington “Games/Ready For Your Love” SJ 522 Release Date: Monday April 29th 2013 https://soundcloud.com/chalkster/david-washington-soul-junction David Washington is a multi talented singer, songwriter producer and musician (bass guitarist) who was one of the founding members along with Michael Powell of the legendary Detroit Group Chapter 8. Chapter 8 went on to recorded three highly acclaimed albums for major labels Ariola (1979) entitled “Chapter 8”. The “This Love’s For Real” Beverley Glenn (1985) and the “Forever “ album Capitol (1988) these albums and their subsequent 45 and12” singles secured Chapter 8 a cult following not only in Europe but Japan where they toured for 6 months at a time for 3 consecutive years. David Washington was also responsible for discovering Anita Baker whom he first heard singing with another local Detroit band “The Osmoses”. Following brief spells with female lead singers Carolyn Crawford and Barbara Love, Chapter 8 in 1978 were again in need of a new female vocalist and Baker fitted the bill. But Baker was to leave following the group being dropped by Ariola. When Anita Baker embarked on a solo career she did so under the tutelage of producer Michael Powell who enlisted David and other former Chapter 8 members to record on the Baker sessions, they also found success with Regina Bell, RJ’s latest Arrival, Marissa Rose and David Peaston, amongst others. David Washington has also worked and travelled the world with the likes of the Detroit Emeralds, The Fantastic Four, Joe Simon, Sam and Dave and The Dells whom Chapter 8 backed on their Detroit and national concerts. This opportunity came about through Tin Alison as he was the cousin of Marvin Junior the Dells baritone lead singer. Also, David, along with fellow Detroit musician Donny Lyle formed another group known as Quazer who also established a firm fan base in Japan. At one point Quazer looked to be close to signing a recording deal with CBS/Sony before a difference of opinion caused the group to split. Additionally, in 1999 David toured Europe with the British gospel singer Lavine Hudson. David then turned his back on the road life of a professional musician. Firstly, he operated his own pest control business before entering college where he attained a degree in information technology. David went on to work as a network specialist with his wife, Jeannine, in Japan that was until the tsunami hit. Upon his return to his native Detroit David rediscovered the urge to perform and record music once again, his first effort being a solo rework of the Chapter 8 classic “Ready For Your Love”, which we at Soul Junction records have since picked up for release along with David’s own brand new interpretation of the song “Games” which David previously wrote for former Fee recording artist, Jimmy Scott. Just thought I'd give Charles's "Sice I Found You Girl" a shout, a nice record that seems to be regarded as the poor relation of the others mentioned above. Dave

These tracks are brand new versions by the original well respected artist, with plenty more to come. They are for the enjoyment and appreciation of the whole worldwide soul market which is far larger than both the Northern and Scooterist scenes and does not live 29 years in the past. Most definitley not taylor made. Dave P.S and before you start my record collection is from the 1960's right throught to the present (no date restrictions)and I don't wear the same clothes as I did 30 years ago (or perceived uniform required to belong to a scene) either.

Her crossover double sider "Make Him Mine/One More Day" on Lau-reen is worth a quick mention in dispatches Dave
-
Oh! now I know why I had a queue of people outside my front door yesterday morning Andy ! Thanks to all of you guys for your positive comments regarding the David Washington release it's gonna be big ! You can still hear the Chapter 8 pedigree in David's voice, as with the previous Sounds Of Imani (SJ519) release which also featured Chapter 8's Gerry Ervin. Regards Dave

Record Store Day - 20th April 2013 plus Official Film
Louise commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Yeah Chalky Keith was a nice bloke it's really sad when a well established business/local institution like Hudson's goes to the wall. Not only did he sell records but instruments and sheet music as well, where's any young kids who want to learn to play a instrument gonna go now. The damage the download is doing extends farther than just physical vinyl record sales. It's actually killing the music industry as a whole stone dead. Did you see Byonce on the TV the other night lamenting the demise of the album market. If she's finding it tough what chance has a up and coming independent artist ? Dave -
