Poll Northern Soul Showdown - Detroit Vs Philadelphia
Not for me, although alot of great music came out of Detroit it still falls way behind Chicago. The more you look deeper into it you'd be surprised how many Detroit releases were recorded/mastered etc in the Windy City as well as many other recordings from other surrounding Mid-west towns. Dave

1980's Northern Low Point
It was the old Brierley Hill Youth Club which is now a Mosque. Their was no Asda there in those days just a few things that you would associate with local communities way back then such as a swimming baths and the home ground of the local football team Brierley Hill Alliance F.C. Dave

21St Generations On Tri-City
21st Generation line up as follows:Regional Garland, Eddie Garland, James Cobbins and Wendell Counts. The label was out of Saginaw Michigan. The song was recorded under Chocker Campbells supervision at the Chess Studios in Chicago. Regional later joined the Perfections recording "Girl You Better Hurry" along with Lee Edwards-Duncan, Dwayne Nickerson and Thomas White. This was recorded at the Tri-City studio in Saginaw. That's your lot for now I'm off to finish my decorating. Dave

1980's Northern Low Point
The Breirley Hill allnighter has probably got to qualify for the smallest allnighter in the world accolade. This was without a doubt one of Alan Johnson's worst promotions, myself and the then other local nighter goers couldn't believe it when the add appeared in Black Echoes (surely there must be some mistake ). The venue had once been a pub that had been reliant on the trade from the Dannilo cinema next door, when the Dannilo closed in the late 60,s so did the pub. Then during the mid 80's some local entreprenuer decided to open it as a wine bar (FFS) a wine bar in a one horse town like Breirley Hill where a lager and lime drinker was regarded as a phoof (OMG). The venue was intially called the Crystal Goblet before becoming the Razzamataz Club when the owner realized there was no demand for a sophisticated wine bar and decided to target the local underage lager lout clientel. Anyway as Joan mention's the dancefloor was no bigger than a pocket hankerchief, the decks were positioned on the bar, and folk turned up from all corners of the country and were packed in like sardines, Unreal Hence to say the Brierley Hill allnighter never became a legendary venue in northern soul folklore, and the pub/club closed down for good shortly afterwards. Still that was the first and only time it took me less than half an hour to walk home from an allnighter! Dave

Unknown Artist On This Acetate
I remember Soulbowl having a copy of this acetate at a record fair in Manchester a few years ago for £50 ( same version as the issued 45). Wouldn't it be ironic if this was the same acetate that's found it's way back to the states. Does it really matter if it's the same or version not, Captain Jesse it just another one of those records with a great northern backing but gets let down badly by it's crass lyric's. It never fails to amaze me how some of these nearly/never been records go ape-shit on ebay. Dave

Elbowed -Out ....2 X Unissued Upbeat 70S Tracks For Summer 2013
Hi Guys, we thought this would be a popular release and the feedback we've recieved so far seems to back this up. Two strong 70's dancers on the back of David Washington's 'Games' (SJ522) release. As Marius has rightly said the Elbowed-Out soundfiles don't do the songs total justice, but unfortunately with some some of the unscrupulous souls around these days who'd prefer to rip a sound file off rather than buy a copy we have to try and protect ours and our artists interests at least prior to its initial release. But if you'd like to hear more tune into Solar, Starpoint plus many other radio soul stations who are hammering the hell out of it. Or if your going to Cleggy this weekend be sure to listen out for it. Have a nice day Dave Soul Junction

Just Brothers - Go On And Laugh - Where's It Gone?
Makes me wonder if the Just Brothers if discovered now would be held in such high regard by the current northern crowd who seem to think that Willie John's I'm Shakin' and Bob Sinclairs 'Tribute' is where it's at ? Dave P.S can we please get back to some real soul of which the Just Brothers is a perfect example.

David Washington Games b/w Ready For Your Love
Yes Andy "Games" is proving to be a popular choice with our Scottish Brothers and Sisters, so by the time the "True Soul Weekender arrives it should be regarded as a anthem. Better keep a copy back for Jocko (I'll get back to you later ) O'Connor before it sells out Dave

White Cliff(S) Label From New Orleans
Hi Andy The Joe Parker exists, It's Joe Parker & a group (forgotten the name) It's a really maniac version of the Uniques as mentioned, way, way to fast to dance to. Took me ages to sell it. Also had the Otis Scott, and I seem to remember having a third Tasco 45 too Dave

David Washington Games b/w Ready For Your Love
Hi Andy as you can hear in David's interview unless your a young buck hip hop artist on a major label there's nothing happening for you stateside. That's why the work not only our selves (Soul Junction) but other labels, Kent, Daptone, Numero, Timion etc etc do should be supported wholeheartedly by genuine soul fans throughout the world. The obituary columns are growing longer and the material is getting harder to find in a physical format so the future is gonna be in the release of previously unissued masters, again for as long as they are obtainable. Dave

The Best Of Unreleased Tamla Motown N.soul?
hi Steve Great list but didn't The Temps "You Got To Earn It" come out as the flip to " Since I Lost My Baby" on Gordy ? Edward Hamilton claimed that Cornelius Grant ( the songs co-writer ) had offer "You Got To Earn It" to him to record, but Edward refused the offer. Cornelius along with Pistol Allen had taken unoffical leave from Motown to play on Edward's "I'm Gonna Love You" Session Dave
