  7. It's refreshing to see so many new and recent new releases getting a mention but how many of them are getting anywhere near the extensive airplay they deserve out on their respective scene's A top tip for 2014 might for more Dj's to be a bit braver and ignore the incessant diatribe against new releases and and anthing less than 100mph, could 2014 be the year when the soul gets put back into Northern ? Dave
  8. Nice one Chalky I might be biased somewhat but I still think there's plenty of legs left in : The Coalitions (the whole album) David Washington Games August Heat You & Me Elbowed-Out Taking A Step (watchout for their follow up 45 in 2014 too) Dave

  10. Some of the above comments regarding advertisers may be unfounded as it's most certainly down to the lack or reduction of advertising that have probably influenced Jazz Fm's decision to down size. I was told recently by someone in broadcasting that the cost to a radio station for a license to broadcast via DAB radio was £60,000 a year. It's a real shame though with most of the local and larger independent radio stations now becoming syndicated (only needing to broadcast 10 hours of local radio a week) how restricted the stations playlists have become. I mean how many times in a day can you (or want to hear) Pickett's "Mustang Sally", what chance has any independent ladel or artist got to get the products heard. Although it does make it the job of the station recording their playlists for PRS easy.Dj's don't need any personal taste anymore all they have to do is present a show from a poole of tracks that put in front of them. Sad but true. Dave

  19. It may be of interest to some that Bill Spoon also co-wrote the Jesse Fisher classic "Your Not Loving a Beginner" along with John Washington and Riki Dannison. The song was originally composed for the Soul Notes to be released under it's original title of "I've Been Waiting For Your Love" b/w I Got Everything You Need (Way Out 106). But Lester Johnson pulled "I've Been Waiting For Your Love" and re-released "How Long Will It Last" instead. "I've Been Waiting For Your Love" with additional lyric's added by James Calloway was used but under the new title of "Your Not Loving A Beginner" which was recorded by Jesse Fisher the younger brother of Richard Fisher of The Jive Five Richard Fisher and Bill Spoon had been life long friends since their high school days in Bessemer ,Georgia. If you flip your copy of Jesse Fisher you'll find that the B-side a instrumental version of "Your Not Loving A Beginner" is credited as just "Waiting" Dave
