  7. I couldn't believe the other day when I stumbled across a lookalike Stateside Demo of Jimmy Radcliffe "Long After Tonight " etc and Little Anthony "Better Use Your Head" UA Demo. This is really taking the piss. Dave
  8. Ginger isn't really known for any kind of sudden violent movements, but if you need the phone number of a curry house anywhere in the length and breath of Britain at 4am in the morning , he's your man ! Dave
  9. O.k a wrong choice of a example by me maybe, I have nothing against Craig Charles the person and it's rather unfortunate that his show is entitled 'The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show' but it would be interesting to see what he played left to his own devices. I agree with your regarding it either being his show or no-one, but that just prove's how sad and predicable radio has become following the syndicating of radio shows and the sacking of many time served Dj's who worked their way up from a moblie Dj in the backroom of a pub. Regarding show producers let's face it anyone can produce a mainstream northern show, Radcliffe, Wilson, Parrish,Legend and few motown tunes chucked in for good measure and Bob's your uncle. All this media attention has turned a once fiercely proud and progressive underground scene into a trendy haunt for middle aged discontented bingo players, with the latest Wigan Smash hits cd out of Aldi. Dave
  10. Radio Dj's are a thing of the past, it's now all about 'Celebrity Presenters' and as such that's all they do is present a show, the musical content is decided by a, or team of producers based on their musical taste's (or bad taste in most cases) and their limited knowledge of the Northern Scene, ie The Craig Charles Show. Dave
  11. The common denominator between the two venue's being Cockney Mick (Webb) perhaps ? Dave
  12. A epidemic then Steve
  13. Yep ! Paul Chris King directly after Dooley Silverspoon "Game Players" Dave
  14. Brierley Hill, you were lucky to get out alive they still practice cannibalism down there, and are quite partial to a slice of brummie with a splash of brown source. Mind you I bet it worked well with your Hwaiian shirt !
  15. Book him Teddo, either you interupted their yoga class or they were staging a protest because you didn't play the jam !

Now then uncle Ted what was the northern scene like before the war :wicked:
  17. Hi Frankie It's Dave under Louise's monica, she couldn't give a rats arse. I agree with most of your statement, these days the majority of my collection circa 1964 to 2014 is on US labels with the odd foreign or UK only release items. Having sold my UK 60's and 70's in the mid 80's due to being unable to afford both UK and US, and thus choosing to concentrate on US releases with them being more infinite. The point of my previous post is that I think that we (the soul scene) should be grateful for the foundations laid down by UK releases and not belittle them. ATB Dave
  18. He will when he gets back from the organ donor centre Dave
  19. In the words of that 'old sage' Michael Winner "calm down dear" No one's trying to hang on to his youth or any romantic ideals etc just asking people to respect the foundation's of the soul scene which UK labels were a major part and influence of. Although I do like listening to the ramblings of my forebearer's of when Okeh copies of Billy Butler's "I Can't Work No Longer" and the "Vibrations "Soul A Go-Go " were tunes to sacrifice a kidney for. Oh! and just for the record I own a Revilot demo of Darrell Banks even though I've had every other vinyl permutation UK and US of it through my hands over the years with the exception of the London issue. Without getting a wooden rule out and looking at the advent calendar in freebasing I would assume my Knob to be of average size, although the one in the middle of my forehead might be a different matter. Dave
  20. Yes mate and I've just looked up the word 'Pedantic' a person who is excessively concerned with details and rules !! Although alot of people try and rewrite the history of soul music i'm afraid the Stateside label was the main protagonist in the Darrell Banks story. Dave
  21. Yo Dave I'll see if I can bleach a couple of issue copies up over the holiday just for you ! A Darrell Banks tribute feature on your radio show me thinks ? Dave
  22. I have always found this derogatory attitude about British (UK) soul releases being nothing more than reissues to be very sad, they are the bedrock of the mod/soul and later northernsoul scene. Perhaps not the London release but without the Stateside release how many of us would have heard and fell in love with the voice and work of Darrell Banks ? And while were at it let's give Angel Baby on Red Atlantic a big shout too Dave
  23. Thank you oh lenient one, I won't be appealling Although I must agree with the thread starter, why spend this much money on a record that is available on so many legitimate releases, yes it is a great find but it's time as a one off maybe short lived due to it's high profile media exposure, after all how many employee's did Decca have during the mid 60's ?? £15000 - £25000, you can buy an awful lot of great records with that if know what your doing Tin hat on and now retreating down the sewer pipe I climbed out off Dave

Now then how am I gonna get that big boy back into a 7" sleeve ?
  25. Rod Shard is using a black felt pen to colour the label in on the yellow London demo in his sales box as we speak Dave
