Just a thought but are today's dancers as good as their forebearers ? Back in the day good dancers would be able to adjust their footwork to the tempo of the music being played and just got on with it. But in today's media driven, uniformed what's expected northern dance school instructing anathema of a scene if they can't do the expected two steps to the left, two steps to right to every record, they wonder off outside for a smoke or a E-ciggie usually moaning (wearing a wooly hat being optional) ! And don't get me started on the couples dancing together to the slower stuff How long before we a Strictly Come Northern Dancing Special, I wonder which media craving parasites will feature on the Judges panel ? I have a vague recollection of Mick Smith getting a unissued Gentlemen Four acetate off Soul Bowl circa late 80's it was about the same time that he got Martha Starr on Charay. Where it resides now who knows ? Dave
-
Sure is Chalky, it sounded great through a system when you played it (twice) at Lifeline the other week ! Mind you we've been getting a lot of traffic through the SJ website from the principality of Yorkshire, is this anything to do with you ? All we need now is that Red Rose lot the other side of te Pennines to losen up their purse strings too LOL ! Dave

Just as a point of interest, I've got a unreleased alternative mix of "Keep On Climbing" on a 7" acetate which is slightly slower than the LP version but with a more heavier northern backing. Dave

Fellas, Don't Let The Girls Take Over - Soul Junction 45 Release
Louise commented on Chalky's article in News Archives
Yes Steve, time does fly when your having fun. The last in the trilogy of unissued J.B tracks is out today with a lot of people commenting on how much better the sound quality is on " All Alone By The Telephone" than the U.A release. I've been listening to "Fellas, Don't Let The Girls Take Over" for over two years but again I didn't really appreciate how great it sound out until Chalky played it through a system at Lifeline. Available from all the usual vinyl stockists or direct from the Soul Junction website: www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk A tenner well spent me thinks Dave -
As driven and Dj'ed in by Mark Houghton Dave
-
Or the previous winner didn't want to pay the postage at the full value perhaps ?

Hi Mal He was the lead singer of the Five Flight's Up who recorded for the T.A. and Oak labels. Check out his bio on the Soul Junction website: www.souljunctionrecords.co.uk Dave

TWO THINGS THAT ARE KILLING THE SOUL SCENE

TWO THINGS THAT ARE KILLING THE SOUL SCENE
Louise replied to Speedlimit's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Phil I too know a lot of people who have spent their whole teenage and adult life on this scene (over 50 years in some cases) who have never been away from albeit a fortnight's holiday in Spain who are totally bored shitless with hearing the same old tired sounds (top 500) and who are beginning to question their continued involvement with the scene. People who have the majority of the top 500 in their record collections, people who have grown with the music who can appeciate and collect black soul music of all tempo's and styles from the 60's through to the present. As the old adage goes 'Variety is the spice of life' but unfortunately if you can only appreciate 100mph stompers then your taste becomes somewhat limited, but as you say that is your perogative which I don't really have a problem with, each to their own. Both the northern and modern/crossover scenes used to be driven by the discovery and playing of new music (some tracks stood the test of time, some didn't), you take this factor out of the equation and what you are left with is a stagnet scene. Ring any bells ? Dave
