  11. Hello Pete, A name from the past that jolted my memory, Graham from Hull, he used to travel to Selby, then a few of us would go off to UTJ, Torch etc, he was always smart and if i remember always had a blazer on with a wheel badge on it. As you say late 60ts and early 70ts Yorkshire was very vibrant and a hub of the scene with numerous places to go, there are probably a lot of people on this site who were part of it, along with the Central, but as stated some nights, early - early 70ts were standing room only, some nights people were actually refused entry due to numbers within and had to take alternative action to the norm. PS, I wonder if my Jimmy Thomas is one of yours? Best regards Jimmy Welsh.
  12. Rob, I have sent you an email, those were the days! Regards Jimmy Welsh.
  13. Hi Dave / Val, Brilliant, Ref the Pontefract Temptations, is that Rob Sinnet and John Edwards? Plus nice to see the photo with Pete and Mick, my memory is poor but did you not run two other venues in Normanton? Regards Jimmy Welsh.
  14. Malc, Pete Balance, i thought it was about 12 years ago, i have spoke to Mick Mullins and he quotes about 10? shame as he was okay, always got time for people. Regards Jimmy Welsh
  15. Malc, 'A real Character'; Stan from South Emsall, a person who could have been definitely defined / described as a character, quote; 'all the qualities and features that make a person, people, and places different from others', a lot of people into the all-nighter scene in the late 60ts early 70ts, in particular the Yorkshire area would have known / interacted with Stan at sometime or another, good or bad, although always okay with me, if Mick Mullins and Peter 'ginger' Balance RIP were posting on hear I feel sure they would be able to enlighten the readers with a few tales of the unexpected. Again a real character, just one among many, in times when you made it on your wit and sometimes lived on the edge. Best regards Jimmy Welsh.
  16. Hello Swish, Interesting quiz, an old scooter of mine had a 'Twisted Wheel' it happened in Glasgow? Best regards Jimmy Welsh.
  17. Hello Soulcarp, Am just trying to put name to face as i may know you? The two people you mention are very much embedded in my memories, Pete 'ginger' Balance, rip and Mick Mullins, have spent many many and many a happy hour with them at various venues, went to the same schools etc, although they were in the next year up. Me and Pete lived 100yds (sorry metres) apart, Mick lived in the next village, (just by the river). Other people within this, could be; Mr Edwards, Mr Sinnet, Mr Box, Mr Barrett, Ms Wilson etc, some happy days. P.S. i am trying to think of first records, venues etc, but it is not easy, Herbie Mann? Jerry Butler? Billy Butler? James Carr? whatever it was it motivated something in my brain, and 42 yrs later I can honestly say that a day does not go by without me listen to a record with 'A SOUL' in it. Regards Jimmy Welsh.
  18. Brent, Ady's mate you refer to must be Les Hewer? they only lived a few houses apart in Selby, Eric spent quite a lot of time in the Selby area. There was quite a crowd of people that went to nighters from the Selby / Pontefract / Yorks area long before Va Va. Regards Jimmy Welsh.
  19. Brent, Although i cannot put a name to your face, you have mentioned people who i have known grown up with, Steve Midgley - great kind of guy, unfortunatley no longer with us, Snowy - still doing it as far as i know, Eric Smith , a big friend of Ady Dundass, Ady's older sister Jenny also went to Va-Va, Ann and Mary, there was an Ann and Janet Jacobs from Selby, others from that area who went to Va -Va, Sammy Seaman, P Temple, Pete 'ginger' Balance RIP, Graham from Hull, quite a few people from York, Tony, John all people who had moved on from other closed nighters. there are others, an odd one or two who have posted on this site, i dont live in Yorks any more so i do not see some of these, although i still make the odd visit and at 57 it can only get more difficult to remember. Regards Jimmy Welsh
