Proffessional Restoration of Record Labels
Bbrich replied to Russ Vickers's topic in All About the SOUL
John Manship had a record on a recent auction where I am sure he said the label had been 'professionally restored' - so he may be able to point you in the right direction... -
Got my copy yesterday and couldn't put it down. Lots of laugh out loud moments but with a message that I guess would appeal to many on here....
-
If younger people were made more welcome and not expected to have the same knowledge as those with 40yrs+ then I'm sure some would get to appreciate the record collecting/playing side. (would also help to protect the values of those with collections !!)
-
Absolutely and i thought I was the only one who rationed their own records. I will only rarely play tsu toronadoes - what good am i and masters of soul - do you really love me. There are quite a lot of records that I wont play at home because I only want to hear them if I am on the decks or the dancefloor - because I want them to remain special and any other situation is a wasted play for me! (if the wife plays a cd with such a track on it I turn it off!)
-
In future is it likely the dwinding number of dancers will require a fee whilst the dj's & listeners pay ?
-
Evelyn Thomas Doomsday !!. if anyone actually wants it send me the postage and its yours.

5 dj's, friendly crowd, free entrance and even free food (although i'm not sure if that is a regular feature!). If you are in the area check it out - great way to spend a sunday. Bbrich replied to Bbrich's topic in Event Playlists - Reviews
First TDS at this lovely venue with large sprung wooden floor. my job was to play mostly 'classics' (or 'same old' depending on your perspective!) all OV (except reconsider..). Johnny, Simon & Paddy played a great variety. The next one is Sat 21st Dec. Butch Williams Of The Heartbreakers. New Vinyl Release
Bbrich replied to Dave Thorley's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi, can I still purchase one of these please ? -
I wouldn't have thought the problem was poor do's clashing with good do's, but more of a problem when good do's clash with good do's, then you get 2 neither of which are as good as they could have been for punters and promoters alike.
-
the nearest at Reading that I remember was Curtis & 'Move on Up' (shortly before we were relegated I think!!)
-
maybe events on soulsource should have to state if they are OVO or not then people who care can make the choice.

Is collecting rare soul vinyl an investment
Bbrich replied to Stateside's topic in All About the SOUL
Are the big prices because the records really are rare or because there is actually quite a few but most dont want to sell and a lot would want one ? for example does anyone have any idea how many of say Tomangoes, Yvonne Baker, Ivories etc...etc... actually exist? I would guess that If it is the former then prices are much more likely to stay high than if a lot more are likely to hit the market in the future. -
Please can you state; demo or issue condition price Please pm if you have one - many thanks

Is collecting rare soul vinyl an investment
Bbrich replied to Stateside's topic in All About the SOUL
whether soul vinyl turns out to be a good or a bad investment over the long term is very arguable and will only be proven in the fullness of time (did anyone predict the current prices say 12,15 or 20 years ago?). However it does have a few things going for it ; - unlike the stock market where prices can (& have) dropped drastically literally overnight vinyl prices are likely to be a much more steady decline (assuming they do decline ?) giving you the opportunity to exit at a chosen point. - the amount of pleasure to be had from just owning and playing your collection vs a bit of interest form cash in the bank or some shares etc... !! - I would guess that most people on here have acquired their collections at prices way below todays levels so they could take a big drop in the market before they even lose ! However for me (& maybe others) the best reason to think of buying records as an 'investment' is purely to justify to ourself (& probably the wife..) to what to any sane outsider would appear ridiculous prices for a record which you can hear for free on you tube, buy the cd or the re-issue etc... -
and is it the case that a modern record that was first played and accepted many years ago is now a 'modern oldie' (serious question), but if so that is even harder to explain to my kids.....................
-
After playing Eddie Holman I Surrender a guy come up and said "Could I play it again because his mate hadn't heard it before and quite liked it". He was being deadly serious so I had to point out that it might not go down so well with everyone else...... he wandered off shaking his head !
-
Really pleased to be asked back & pleasantly surprised by the good turn out being so soon after the bank holiday mini all-dayer ! boosted by some young ones who I guess were hearing a lot of these records for the first time (and dancing away to them..) really good sets from the other dj's and for my bit....
