Seems these sort of sounds have been played on the scene longer than I thought if Spiral Staircase MTTY was played pre Torch as Kegsy stated early in the thread.
The difference between souly pop and sunshine is easily summed up for me by two rcords from Paul Anka:
I Can't Help Loving You - soul pop/pop soul
When We Get There - sunshine pop
Maybe its the optimism these sounds give off, that make/made them popular (as well as usually being very catchy). Could it be they provide a "feel good" factor in amongst the rest of the nights soungs which are often about failed relationships/ two timin men and women/ havin no money etc
Dancable "candy"
I'm talking specifically about the "Sunshine Pop" records.
Things like; Spiral Staircase - More Today......, David & the Giants - Ten Miles..., Buckinghams, Keith, etc...... were these all mid to late 70s or was anything like this played earlier?
Thanks for the info Roger. What you say would seem to make sense re promotional items but the use of stock labels seems strange - not even a "promo" sticker on them?
Pickin up on an old thread. This is my copy of The Originals on red vinyl, the thing I've always wondered about is why it has Good Night Irene on both sides (both sides labelled Good Night Irene also) as opposed to the usual B side Need Your Lovin' yet there is no mention of "promo" etc. Its the correct catalogue number etc. So what was the point of pressing them up? I'd understand if it was a red vinyl version of the standard issue but to have both sides with Good Night Irene, yet no mention of promo/demo on the label doesn't seem to fit with any logic, but there must have been some sort of reason - novelty demo or something?
Got to thinking about records I love but never bothered buying on original even though I've had the chance. I'm not talking financial gain as motivation or mega rare, just records I love but never got round to buying:
Lorraine Chandler - I Can't Change
Seven Souls - I Still Love You
Howard Guyton - I Watched You........
L Allen - Can't We Talk It Over
Ambers - I LoveYou Baby
and on and on......
You?

/\ Yes Russell that's the type - want white as the ones I already have are white, but its not a deal breaker.
Lee the ones I saw on eBay didn't look too strong - do you remember the seller you bought off?
Looking to pick up some more white cardboard storage boxes, its been years since I bought my last lot and looking at the ones available now in all the obvious places ebay/amazon etc. the quality doesn't look that good.
Anyone got any tips on where I can get some decent ones preferably the double sided ones they used to make, all help gratefully received.
Rob
I keep meaning to get around to buying a deck for the front room so I can bring down a small box of records to play instead of watching tv, otherwise its a trip up to the record room but with kids thats not as easy as it used to be unless I use headphones. I use the PC and tablet more for listening to stuff I don't own or don't know.
Holly Maxwell - (Happiness Will Cost You) One Thin Dime - Constellation - M- £45
Has a drill hole
Johnny Moore - Such A Wonderful Feeling - Blue Rock - EX - £40
