  1. Looks like Danny Reddington picked the wrong day for his sale or has he finally accepted one of the offers for the whole lot?
  2. Oh and well done Drew.
  3. Me and some friends went back when we took a detour en route to Morecombe Central Pier so would be around 83 maybe early 84 (I was away abroad during much of 84 and know it was before that period). To be honest I can' t really remember too much of what we saw that night, I think it was wasteland at that point, nothing had been built I don't think. I remember that clip on the tv of some guy looking at the site when it was a car park for awhile I think? Can anyone fill me in on what happened on the site chronologically after it burnt down (and that in itself seemed a bit of a coincidence didn't it - any gossip there?) Occasionally get the urge to see what its like now, must be strange or maybe more normal for Wigan locals?
  4. The Invitations surprised me.
  5. Oh and just to reiterate what has been said on other threads, Morecombe (Shaun G) doing its bit to keep the scene going during the 80s. Not as cutting edge with music but some great, fun nighters there with good crowds.
  6. Those pics bring back a few memories. At the end of his set I got onto the stage at the left hand side and shook his hand as he went off. He seemed a bit shaky and I remember thinking that he might have been a little worse for wear (or a little exhausted?). Great night and certainly ticked the "I've seen Chuck Jackson wish list box".
  7. I couldn't quite work out if she was singing live or lipsynching Seriously catchy tune, if someone wants to pay big money their choice. If that wasn't known on the northern scene and I heard Brian Matthews play it and inform me it got to number 55 in 1966 or whenever. I'd happily cough up £20 - 30 for it. But it is known on the scene and therefore commands more, which means I can' t afford a good pop record. I'm off to play Billie Davies - I Want You To Be My Baby.
  8. You must have had shit drugs at Cleethorpes
  9. Enough stimulant in you and 100lbs of pain don't sound much faster than a beat ballad
  10. Weren't you supposed to be selling not buying?
  11. Virgin records was on Bull St. The guy who started Graduate did so in Dudley and had a number of shops in the Mid's, can't remember one in B'ham but could be completely wrong? Anyone?
  12. Pete, you've uncovered the mystery buyer, Danny Reddington. So if he paid Kenny Burrell 25K for it he must have it up for at least 100K as he was always 4 times too expensive
  13. Was that a junk shop? I remember a record shop down Alum Rock early 80s that was run by an ex Reddingtons staff member if I remember right, but it was definately a proper record shop. Could be a different shop mind as there were a number of junk shops round there and Saltley back then.
  14. Yes Pete I remember Garrisons and you're right about what might have been in there. Reddingtons had a storage place on the Stratford Rd if I remember right but I never got in there but think Mitchell might have? Do you remember the junk shop up by Yardley Cemetery he used to have quite a lot of records in there at times, again wonder what I might have missed when a naive newbie. Yes the bloke in Second City was friendly though I never got anything particualrly good out of there, mostly fillers nothing as good as your Big Maybelle I'm afraid. By the way how come you weren't at Martins wedding the other week?
  15. Inspired by the Tommy Neal thread and the comments Pete S made about prefering the instrumental because Tommy struggles to hit a note or two, and others saying how it doesn't matter to them got me thinking about a tune that has such a bum note that I can't get past it: https://youtu.be/73NcJiK2jiU The note at 29 seconds in just does it for me. Anyone else got any examples for them?
  16. No mention of the Spaceland version. TLscapital said on the "vocal vs instrumental" thread: "I'm not in the known, but 'I belong to you' sounds like a fake thing to me, like made for the Northern scene. With the tapes, licences and so on. It never sounded right to my ears and it has no early 7T's original release. I always assumed that way. Am I wrong or right here ?" My question is were these vocals cut in the 60's and kept in the can or were they cut in the 70's to add to the backing tracks?
  17. Are they all working in a hospital on the side?
  18. Valid point, maybe I misread that one.
  19. Sorry I just don't agree with what you say about "talking the record down". No-one has slagged the record off, said its poor, said its overrated, etc. All the thread has done is question and tried to clarify which of any of the release's/pressings is the first.
  20. Friday night here,..........Soul Source members meet up?
  21. Second City Sounds. I passed on a copy of Bowies first album on Deram in there. I regret that.
  22. Seeing as Reddingtons has pissed so many of us off over many years maybe we should all pile over on his sale day and piss him off somehow? Get the Blackpool flashmob dancers down,...........then again he'd milk it for publicity. He's just been on Midlands Today advertising it so I would imagine it will be busy.
  23. Thanks for clarifying Gareth.
