  9. Just off topic Got a photo of me and Chris Hewitt on M's dancefloor curca 1977 When I first saw it I thought "that must have been some good gear -look at the state of our eyes theyre effin red" Then someone explained "red eye " to me Spike

  11. Yes he was filming the dancefloor
  12. On the 10th June at the twisted wheel Sunday soul session there was a guy with a very large professional camera. Filming for a couple of hours. Anybody know who he was? and what the purpose of this was? Spike?
  13. In the temptations film (is it sex drugs& rythmn n blues)? They depict the temps (before they were called that) Singing "stay" on a street corner just harmonies no music sounds great Do you think that a lot of the early 4 seasons tunes come into the do wop / soul genre? Big girls don't cry stay Walk like a man Ect? Would the early tunes like The walk jimmy mc cracklin Little queenie bill black Be classed as crossover r n b/ rock n roll/ soul / do wop? Spike
  14. Steven pike = S.Pike = SPIKE (don't know why I had to put a number 1 after it though?)
  15. Radio Hallam 74/5??? Did it always start with the opening to "girl don't make me wait" and "earthquake" And was there like a jingle that went "it's a bigun from Wigan the talk of the north "?? As always I will stand corrected Spike
  16. Ahhh the small packed floor in the newies room gave rise to the fast small shuffle type dancing basically dancing on the spot as there wasnt enough room for the more expansive style and acrobatis were a rarity on that floor in 76 The Sammys shuffle we used to call it as opposed to the Wigan stomping style Just my opinion I'm sure some body wil find fault Speedy spike
  17. Great effort Irish you deserve a huge pat on the back for all your work Hope to see you down in THAT cellar on Friday Ktf spike
  18. True true true ! I think that this is what the divs call"baggage" Lived and loved every last damn second of my nighter experiences Some outrageous journeys to and back from Wigan And all the stuff that happened in the week to "prepare " for the weekend Baggage? Memories more like Ktf spike
  19. Don't know if it could be any worse than that Lilly savage /Paul o Grady toenail curling f*#kin fiasco!!!
  20. That must be some wicked gear to make steam come out of your ears !!;)
  21. Think that's the answer to the Origanal question !!!;) Nice keep on keepin on Spike
  22. Not sure cosI don't live in that area But I'm sure if you go to any soul do alone or other wise you will be made welcome I'll be at the wheel on Sunday mate I'll be in Monroes about 2pm Introduce yourself ;) (sorry bit off topic) Be nice to have the energy of these young Turks ;) Ktf spike
  23. It was the girls that I was referring to who reminded me of the old days It's great to see some younger people enjoying themselves on the scene and it sounds like this is happening all over the country I do think that the younger mod style guys will create their own scene their own look their own style of dancing whilst respecting the past which in my opinion will enhance the scene as a whole Oldies crossover upfront rare soul? as prince buster once said "Enjoy yourself it's later than you think"
  24. Went to the twisted wheel allnighter last Friday As you'd expect lots of us oldies in attendance But there was a fair few younger soulies in there A lad called Danny from Wigan think he's about 20?? (I'll stand corrected on that!) I've seen him at a few Sunday sessions at the wheel but think this was his first Friday He turned up with a few young friends now these guys had a really good retro look about them Danny is quite a good dancer decent footwork The two girls who came with him (think one was from Preston?) They could really dance proper old school casino style one in particular reminded me of Julie bebb from Warrington those who knew her back in the day will know what i mean And there was a tall lad with them liked his stomping fast footwork style but then he turned on the floor work not just a random spin backdrop splits but in with the beat it was a pleasure to share the dancefloor for a few hours with these guys hope they turn up again! Don't know if there's enough young blood in the scene as a whole but if theyre turning up at one of the oldest venues in the world that only plays sounds that are played at the Origanal wheel sites there must be hundreds going to the more progressive venues? I don't know cos the wheel is the only place I attend at the moment cos I enjoy it If I had time I would love to go to an " upfront rare soul " place just to give it a try Ps I went to Wigan from 76 to 80 and the only baggage I have is what I carry my change of shirt in;) Spike
