  10. I love it. It was written in 1966/7 by Jesse James, he of 'Love is alright' Northern fame. He persuaded the Philadelphia DJ Sonny Hopson to to form the Black Jack label with him. Not only couldn't they get it promoted, but they shortly afterwards had a big local hit with 'Boogaloo Down Broadway' by The Fantastic Johnny C (Corely). I presume the stock of the Gaylettes was then forgotten about and/or trashed. Love is Alright was also released (Cliff Nobles) but after a couple of months radio play got nowhere so they flipped it and 'The Horse' was played, leading to a huge hit that sold 2 million copies. I'd like to think the lead of the Gaylettes was Shirley Turner.
  11. Genuine question. I’ve seen the term ‘up front’ in a few threads and presume it’s used like oldies, modern, crossover etc. Are there specific venues and DJ’s? What tunes would be classed as examples of this genre and are any of them considered as ‘classic’ up front sounds or would that be an oxymoron?
  12. Did that place have a lot of glass in it's roof?

  14. feel free to fill in the track lists
  15. 15+ years ago I decided to digitise my collection of cassette tapes swaps, but soon got bored and never kept the track listings. Obviously, the tapes are older, 20 to 25 years ago.. I thought I'd stick some of them up on Mixcloud. Nearly all 60's, maybe labelled as 60's 'newies' back then? https://www.mixcloud.com/hippopotami/ I've never owned the records.
  16. Did that Stanley Evans ever get released in any format?

  22. Take the strap off, if not a metal one. Get a suitable container i.e. glass or porcelain, and put a little measure of paraffin in it. Take the back off the watch and suspend it a few centimetres above the container. Leave over night in a warm place. Put the watch somewhere warm and well ventilated to remove the excess paraffin residual. It will now be cleaner and lubricated.
  23. No, Joan, there's worse: - (Just A Little) Faith And Understanding by The Magicians. I'll never believe this was a 60's recording until I've had a panproctocolectomy. I always wondered what the vocal to the Kinettes would be and envisaged it might be 'I'm off down the pub' Any guesses to what the vocal to The Michigan Mood' could be?
  24. Thanks for you reply Pete. Can you give me a 'Noddy's guide to what you' need to do exactly?
