A lot probably depended on how much Payola you could afford! The charts were based on sales and radio play so theoretically you could top a chart having sold just 1 record.
  6. Jive Five - If I had a chance - Decca
  7. Off Popsike........................................................................£443, last year. Private Pressing from Cincinnati, Ohio!! Store Stock condition bought from the estate of the Label's owner, John Marshall Finch!! Mr. Finch was the owner of one of a small Cincinnati label known as FINCH. He was a machinist by day at the General Electric plant (in Lockland) for 34 years. Lockland is located ten miles north of Cincinnati, Ohio. At night, and on weekends, he made records at his small recording studio (also in Lockland) called FINCH Recording and Publishing Company. His family stated that he never made much money off the records, charging the artists COST of producing them. His way of distribution around town was to stock the local Jukeboxes. Needless to say, he didn't sell many! He made the first Albert Washington recording in 1962. Washington went on to greater fame as a soul/blues guitarist and singer. Mr. Finch also went on to record such groups as H. Bomb Ferguson And The Mad lads, The Impossibles, The Bees, The Cruisers (also featuring Leroy Jones) and The Five Chances, later just The Chances.
  8. Reminds me of Color One Tear Black and Boba, bless him People: There’s a war going on in Vietnam A lot of people don’t even give a damn About the lives of other people Just another life gone Now who will take the time to raise mother’s home So take heed power people I maybe dead and gone But God’s gonna move you when he ascends his throne So take heed power people I maybe dead and gone But God’s gonna crumble this earth God’s gonna crumble this earth Another man ? elected ? Another ? or soul ? And what about the people Living in the ghetto You say that you care It’s an equality affair But to some it’s just a cover It’s all a big act Well he’s tired of wrong doing Yes he’s tired of crime So get ready world It’s just a matter of time The bible is the feeling And it will come to pass When every creature on the earth Has got to breath their last Any day now God’s gonna crumble this earth God’s gonna crumble this earth
  9. I was at Bradford when Nigel Parker said to PB "that Carl Carlton of your sounds exactly like Junior McCants"; the only time I've actually seen the colour drain from somebody. PB "er, um, yes it does a bit doesn't it" That's when we knew what it was, but never found one, one listed etc.
  10. Andy Rix can, he did a very interesting interview with William Edward Singletary that clarified a lot regarding the demise of Shrine records and subsequent loss of so much of the stock (titles) at once while stored in Waxie Maxie's.
  11. Jesse Davis on Era
  12. As rare as rocking horse s**t, 4 or 5 figure £/$ for an original. I think Rod (modernsoulsucks) on here can fill you in on the details of the record.
  13. What does someone say after "I am nothing, take 3"? "I know ???????" Was that instrumental the only alternative take etc, to come to light?
  14. https://www.styleforum.net/t/89027/mod-to-suedehead/15225 Paul Hallam:" In 1981 I went on an a ski trip and took an old Olympus Trip with me. I thought I took some pretty good pictures with it, so the next year, when I was 17, at the height of the mod scene, I started taking pictures again. There's a few from 82, but the bulk are 84. There's no pictures from 83 because I bought a proper camera and had no idea how to use it"
  15. That's the one I remember him for playing. The list above is for a tape of his spot following Brian Rea at Bedford 15/02/80

  17. I don't think there is a vinyl copy of 'Mike', just the acetate pictured above. She did have a vinyl release on the Motown subsidiary V.I.P. - Stevie / (He is)The Boy of My Dreams, but there are very few copies of it about. Patrice is top right in the picture above; I believe her recording career was cut short due to mental health issues
  18. The title is Mike, but most of the the time she she sings mine except when there's a rhyme with 'like' There's a studio acetate of it, which exists because it never got returned to the manufactures to be re-coated (it was cheaper to re-coat than buy a new one at the time)
  19. The Construction as the Del Capris on UK Grapevine, are there any others?
  20. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/spectropop/conversations/topics/41767 the links no longer work, but a nice little interesting read here re Love Chain & Ronettes
