I suppose the analogue recordings sound like they do because of the equipment they were recorded on; mixing desks the size of a garden shed, valve powered amps etc to end up on magnetic tape. Then to be released on vinyl and cassette tapes which us older folk grew up listening to and maybe for nostalgic reasons prefer? Digital is a totally different scenario, needs only a laptop and half decent software. I remember buying early CDs of 70’s albums and thinking how much tape hiss they had. They were subsequently ‘digitally remaster’, but sounder very dull as the top end was reduced to ‘remove’ the hiss It’s ironic that people are spending fortunes on software to make their digital recording sound like the old analogue ones! Slice up two tates for 're-issue' and boil one in oil and the other in water, the outcome you preferr is down to taste?. Maybe best consumed raw?

The originals have the Monarch Pressing Plant MR in a circle and Delta # 72913-X in the dead wax and will probably be a few hundred £. The 're-issue', worth about £20, but no doubt people will be asking for more, bide your time.

yes, stick it on the less favored side. the thinness of the razor blade will not stop it laying almost 'flat' on the record deck, so you should be able to play it OK. Pane of glass or ceramic tile will help you get the edges of the crack level

if you can get your hands on some old fashioned razor blades & polystyrene glue, you should be able to fix it. Put it on a piece of glass to level things out and apply the glue very thinly around the edges of the blade.

  7. the song is actually about masturbation
  8. could have been cut on a visit to ATS when they were on a 'busy' day?
  9. Slightly what?
  10. In the early 89's Guy Hennigan was playing a load of 'band tracks' of Detroit stuff, one of which was the Valentinos. I think they had come from the same studio tapes find, but no idea where the tapes were located.
  11. do you happen to know about why there were two different designs of the promotional WD labels?
  12. I am trying to find out some info on website called 'MOTOWN, Key Dates, Musicians, Performers.' it's URL was http://www.funandmusic.biz/music-motown.htm. Does anyone know who was behind it and if it is re-hosted anywhere? TIA Simon
  13. Many years ago someone posted on here the separate 8 tracks to ANMHE. bass drums drums & tamborine guitar piano & xylophone strings vocal - marvin vocal - Tammi Did any other (Motown) songs recordings ever turn up? And were did those ANMHE ones come from, they obviously must have had access to the studio tape at some point.
  14. Just found some high res scans and both sides & do have the raised areas under both labels. I'm almost certain I got it of JM circa 1981 - 1983
  15. I bought one in the UK around that time of a major very knowledgeable dealer. No cut off bottom or raised numbers. I was always weary of it being an original, but sold it to another major very knowledgeable dealer who said it was an original. The blotching got progressively worse over time which i assumed a reaction in in the glue.

Another one i love. Ray Winstone on organ, Shifty on guitar and Butch on drums, what's not to like?!
  17. Correct Karl. Many record like CJ were imported by JA within months of their release. Some to specifically sell to Japan for the 'sweet soul' side. Bought by visitors to West Winch and the other side played out at 'northern soul' events, hence classified as a NS record. Sam Fletcher played on the Belgian Popcorn scene, played in the UK, and became a NS record.
  18. I 'suffer' from a very, very, very mild form of it and a little of eidetic memory too. Maybe i should have partook in some of Billy from Stoke's merchandise at Stafford!
  19. It's pity more people on the NS scene don't suffer from hyperthymesia (Hyperthymesia is a condition that leads people to be able to remember an abnormally large number of their life experiences in vivid detail. It is extraordinarily rare, with only about 60 people in the world having been diagnosed with the condition as of 2021.) Apparently it would be more common, but it is instantly cancelled out by the ingestion of amphetamine type drugs!
  20. isn't NS a 'brand' to some degree nowadays? One which the populous in general can associate in some way? i.e. BBC news story this week, if then words were there, people wouldn't necessarily take any notice of the story?. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-birmingham-59064957

At that time Rob Thomas had those 4, plus another 2 or three copies where in the room. I seem to remember that some copies had grooves over the whole of the disk whilst a couple only 2/3rds . I don't know which were 'skippers', but assumed those with the grooves closer together were skippers due the fact they were more cramped up.
  22. last weekend i was going through some old CDs and found a load from a CD swap on SS where the top value of the record was something like £20 - maybe that should be revisited (but no doubt the £20 tag is £100 now!) i think there was even a niter with the same ethos, but i don't know if it was ever repeated?
