  1. If it cost the equivalent of £500 to press up a couple of hundred copies of the Del Larks, you could bin 199 of them and still make £2000 profit!!!!!
  2. Regarding big label stuff on styrene, I made this point a few weeks ago about nothing turning up in mint condition since Danny Moore did a few years ago - can you get a record pressed on styrene now?. My bones tell me there's something dodgy about these records and I'll lay money on more Del Larks's demos turning up in the near future. Has anyone got acess to and ''original'' and a newly found one? In the past, the game has been given away because the newly found MINT copies don't play as long as what the time says on the label. The only way to get rid of those pops and crackles in the last few seconds is to fade out the record early! If you don't believe me go away and play your "original" green label copy of the Salvadors and if it play 2:22 instead of 2:25 you've got a very expensive pressing!
  3. In short, no! The problem with records like this is that they're either really rare or just "obscure" becasue nobody has taken any interest and so never picked up on it. I bought mine for £2 about 20 years ago, but haven't seen one for sale since.
  4. I seem to remember in Searling's notes on the back of the RCA ''Jumping At The Go Go'' album that Elvis based himself on the "man with the golden voice". I think it's ironic that the same sort of situation is being repeated forty years later in hi-hop / rap with Eminem being the most acceptable (white) face of that music genre
  5. The Gwen Owens came from Gwen Owens herself through Rob Thomas and the only one I would consdier mint, Rob kept. The mint Shrine stuff has come from the west coast "find". Shrine had around 19 releases in as many months and I believe a quite a few of the titles would have been mailed across to the west coast for distribution and sat in this find for the last 30 odd years.
  6. Check out "It's only make believe" on AGP and you hear the real Elvis! Another case of skin colour overshadowing talent?
  7. There's nothing illegal about posting up a sales list, events etc, particularly when there are appropriate section on a forum to do so. Although only ever posting 3 times in order to sell one L.P. might be considered as taking the piss There is always a "honeymoon" period where people post and reply to anything and everything until they get bored, a bit like bidding on ebay! On most forums there is a spectrum of contributors; on one hand there are people who know each other both socially, (niters, soul nights etc) and through the forum, as a meeting place. On the other hand there are 'anoraks' who know the most bizarre details on the subject. In both cases the "newbie" could feel quite intimidated and may only put their head above the parapet once before being shot down and then shrinking into their shell. If you've stumbled across northern and heard Judy Street but on making an inquiry get the piss ripped out of you, you are not very likely to venture back. Topics on forums tend to be pretty easy to reply to with a monosyllable and that make it very hard to keep a thread moving forward and hence the input dies off - Do you like sprouts? No, end of story! Feedback, now here's the rub! Take a look through a forum and see what feedback is given - F*** all in most cases (God knows why Mike bothers!) Take a look at the "comments" next to articles, photos and sound submitted, to say it was minimal would be an over statement! Commitment and enthusiasm wane very quickly with out any constructive or appreciative input
  8. I've just posted up some wants and to be honest, I will probably be more likely to be the next Pope, than to get them! I was just wondering if anybody actually gets any results from posting up wants and send in wants lists? Has anybody ever struck lucky and was was the 'want'?
  9. Conquistdors - Just can't stop loving you - Act 4 Eric Mercury - Lonely girl - Sac Fred & Turbines - Bernadine - Cenco Sonic Explosion - We belong together - Big City Sounds Turbines - We got to start over - Cenco OK I admit the marbles were lost a long time ago, but these are serious wants that I'm prepared to pay through the nose for! Cash waiting as they say
  10. So the verdict is that the MINT copy in the DJ's box and the MINT copy on Ovenchip's auction, that have both turned up in the last few weeks, are indeed originals? Can anyone remind the last big ticket sound (i.e. £2000 plus) in MINT condition turned up in confirmed quantities of two or less?
  11. Ovenchip must be kicking himself stupid over this guide.Even if he makes £24 profit on each copy, he (and other dealers) must be losing thousands from not being able to pick up records cheap(particularly in the US) and now having to folk out close to "book" prices. How many times have you seen ebay auctions have a starting price the same as in a guide? Dealers are obviously having to pay top dollar for stock nowadays as their starting auction prices are so high, and their stock / set sale stuff has a very low turnover, a £5 record is now £20. It's OK for anyone with a collection amassed over the years because you can just add a 0 or two to the value, but for anyone thinking of starting collecting now, a twenty grand collection is going to consist of half a dozen records all priced at 100 times their true value - yet another obstacle for enticing in "new blood". Also, I'm sure some of the records on dealer's lists who do it for a living are non existent, because even if you went around with a wheel-barrow full of £50 notes you are not going to pick these records up now because collectors remember that they only paid a fiver for a £500 sound, but are gonna have to spend £800 to get it back because that's what it say in the guide!!!
  12. £20 to £30 If you're selling, you'll disagree If you're buying, you'll disagree as you can't find one for that sort of money Is actual "value" today; If you're buying, it's whatever anyone's gonna actualy be prepared to pay for one If you're selling, it's whatever price you're prepared to accept, when offered Daft answer I know, but it all boils down to "supply and demand" at the time
  13. First sale, no history No picture, no record? The usual bad English form these Belgium sellers And wouldn't the last line to Beluim buyers be more appropriate in French, Flemish or whatever they speak over there?
  14. Twenty odd years ago I had a list of Dave Raistrick with the demo on E+ condition. A few years ago I had a demo from Chadwick's collection in my hands for about 30 seconds, E+ condition. Autumn 2004 DJ has a mint condition demo. Ovenchip has a mint demo. Nowt on Ebay though. Nice black and silver label, just like the Oxford Nights that haven't turned up recently either
  15. Earl White Jnr - Very Special Girl
  16. Well bugger me, that's what they're singing. I'm very Greatful for that!
  17. I bought my copy for the sum of £8 becasue it had "some tape on the labels". When it turned up it had four strips of masking tape on each side. I was told it was the first copy in the country that Pep played cover edup. Anyboy know if this is true?
  18. On behalf of a computer phobic mate, his first hearing of Tony Galla - In love @ Stafford

  20. As I knew the TSU T's & Fantastic Puzzles, I'll be cheeky! How about "smokey the bear would pluck out all his hair, if he could see this heart of mine"
