  1. I think this must get a prize for crap effort. If you are half blind and pissed you might just accept the squigal drawing of a marine mammal is a whale not a dolphin. The sea is topped with barbed wire and the tide in on one side and out on the other. The lettering is all over the shop and the hyphen & ? are missing. But apart from that.............
  2. and my nose was bleedin' cos my brain was haemmoraging at the thought of picking from a list of hundreds, and.... Jeez- if ya gotta explain it, it ain't funny. link
  3. Shit,,really! I'm sure most of us have loved and lost, but that's f*** all excuse to relocate to Belgium!!
  4. They all coke heads then? I know Patrice was mentally ill and in hospital for a while but I didn't realise it was drug induced - shame.
  5. It looks like it's gonna cost me more for the paper to print out my wants list, than my collection is worth!
  6. And don't tell me they're a fiver a time?! :-)
  7. And what's this one too? thanks
  8. Can anyone remind me what this is, please?
  9. ? Aretha Franklin Brenda Holloway Billie Holliday Ella Fitzgerald Dusty SpringField Anita Baker Beverly Knight Hilda Ogden
  10. There's a small group of (non-Northern) Motown interested blokes in the UK who collect anything and everything including unreleased stuff; one of them told me that's there are close to 60,000 unreleased Motown tracks on tapes in the Motown vault in LA.
  11. Ten bob and a blow job (from the seller!)
  12. I picked up a cheap CD comp of Teddy Pendergrass (The best of - The Philadelphia Collection) and can he sing! Was he 'developed' to be the Philly answer to Marvin Gaye? Also check out Lou Rawls on PIR (You'll never find another love), and on Epic (Stop me from starting this feeling)
  13. /index.php?showtopic=2840 The reason Ujima is slightly rare is because it is the b side of the issue only release. The demos are double sided and evidently didn't do too well. I should think the lack of interest in the demos being circulated at the time resulted in the issues being "withdrawn" and destroyed / melted down?
  14. still 2 cds missing. I'm happy to cobble something together and swap if anyone is interested. PM me your address
  15. Would have thought it'd be a Virtue acetate then! Don't Dick Charles acatetes tend to be more NY area recordings too?
  16. I shall be too busy flogging my super mega rare MINT copy of JD Bryant on vinyl not styrene as the other 2 or 3 crapy copies on styrene are!!!! Also, my ''surley a world one off" MINT one sided white label test pressing of the Mellow Souls (I don't have a recording of the B Side or scans of the labells!!! :-) ) And then there's those rare Alaska released copies of Frank Wilson on rainbow coloured vinyl I found in a Antartic thrift store...................
  17. If it cost the equivalent of £500 to press up a couple of hundred copies of the Del Larks, you could bin 199 of them and still make £2000 profit!!!!!
  18. Regarding big label stuff on styrene, I made this point a few weeks ago about nothing turning up in mint condition since Danny Moore did a few years ago - can you get a record pressed on styrene now?. My bones tell me there's something dodgy about these records and I'll lay money on more Del Larks's demos turning up in the near future. Has anyone got acess to and ''original'' and a newly found one? In the past, the game has been given away because the newly found MINT copies don't play as long as what the time says on the label. The only way to get rid of those pops and crackles in the last few seconds is to fade out the record early! If you don't believe me go away and play your "original" green label copy of the Salvadors and if it play 2:22 instead of 2:25 you've got a very expensive pressing!
  19. In short, no! The problem with records like this is that they're either really rare or just "obscure" becasue nobody has taken any interest and so never picked up on it. I bought mine for £2 about 20 years ago, but haven't seen one for sale since.
  20. I seem to remember in Searling's notes on the back of the RCA ''Jumping At The Go Go'' album that Elvis based himself on the "man with the golden voice". I think it's ironic that the same sort of situation is being repeated forty years later in hi-hop / rap with Eminem being the most acceptable (white) face of that music genre
  21. The Gwen Owens came from Gwen Owens herself through Rob Thomas and the only one I would consdier mint, Rob kept. The mint Shrine stuff has come from the west coast "find". Shrine had around 19 releases in as many months and I believe a quite a few of the titles would have been mailed across to the west coast for distribution and sat in this find for the last 30 odd years.
  22. Check out "It's only make believe" on AGP and you hear the real Elvis! Another case of skin colour overshadowing talent?
  23. There's nothing illegal about posting up a sales list, events etc, particularly when there are appropriate section on a forum to do so. Although only ever posting 3 times in order to sell one L.P. might be considered as taking the piss There is always a "honeymoon" period where people post and reply to anything and everything until they get bored, a bit like bidding on ebay! On most forums there is a spectrum of contributors; on one hand there are people who know each other both socially, (niters, soul nights etc) and through the forum, as a meeting place. On the other hand there are 'anoraks' who know the most bizarre details on the subject. In both cases the "newbie" could feel quite intimidated and may only put their head above the parapet once before being shot down and then shrinking into their shell. If you've stumbled across northern and heard Judy Street but on making an inquiry get the piss ripped out of you, you are not very likely to venture back. Topics on forums tend to be pretty easy to reply to with a monosyllable and that make it very hard to keep a thread moving forward and hence the input dies off - Do you like sprouts? No, end of story! Feedback, now here's the rub! Take a look through a forum and see what feedback is given - F*** all in most cases (God knows why Mike bothers!) Take a look at the "comments" next to articles, photos and sound submitted, to say it was minimal would be an over statement! Commitment and enthusiasm wane very quickly with out any constructive or appreciative input
  24. I've just posted up some wants and to be honest, I will probably be more likely to be the next Pope, than to get them! I was just wondering if anybody actually gets any results from posting up wants and send in wants lists? Has anybody ever struck lucky and was was the 'want'?
