  1. Soul Music that's truly across the board from all eras. My last playlist included: 2. Patreece Johnson - You're Watching Over Me - Unreleased Jean Carne - Hello Stranger - Unreleased Thank You - Pre Release Just out of interest, I can understand the 'pre-release' as it's modern soul i.e. present day, up for a relesse in the next few weeks? However, what's with the northern soul stylee 'unreleased' cobblers?
  2. Thought it was a studio acetate only. Is it the one that sounds like the 4 Tops turn to stone?
  3. What is it that he's singing, I'm going bald baby?
  4. Isley Bros – This old heart of mine Finest record ever made (Motown or otherwise) Velvelettes– Let Love Live Finest record never to have been made Ivy ‘Jo’ Hunter – Desperate Situation Finest record to never get further than the demo (tape) ((Thomasina Montgomery –“My love is alive way down in my heart although we are miles apart” Finest ‘goose pimple making’ 6 seconds of music ever recorded Patrick Gammon – Infatuation Finest L.P. only Motown track Mary Jane Girls – All Night Long Finest Motown 12”))
  5. Yes, but it's one of Simon's all time favs (he gets very excited just looking at a scan of the label!). Anyone got a sound file?
  6. Most of (by the mid 80's) is kake becasue of those bloody drum machines. However, I'd say David Sea Night After Night is one of the best tunes ever made. Also good are Larry Wu - Let Me Show You Color Blind - Crazy Tommi Johnson - Somethings Never Change Sheer Music - Fallen Back In Love Again
  7. Tina Roberts ('One Way Or The Other' on Security) is Tina Leverett. Her and, I think 2 sisters, comprised the Leverett Sisters - 'A Place For Me' on Kayden
  8. Can't remember the exact details, but valves produce a more contant / smoother amplified current than transisters and so the end product is supposed to sound better: bit like the vinyl / CD debate, where vinyl is reputed to sound better because it essentially analoge (like our ears are) whereas CD are digital. There's bound to be an audiphile on here to shoot me down!
  9. yes is good I'd recomend it, mid tempo early 70's. You should be able to pick one cheap, around a tenner?
  10. Is this really GW? If so, which one and is it available?
  11. Wasn't have bad was it?
  12. It would have to be ‘Popcorn’ by Hot Butter on Pye 1972. First record I bought with my own (pocket) money from Rumblows narrow Bargate. Aged 8. Though I’d also like to keep the Archies – Sugar Sugar. (and Anorak’s this is famous for what? Clue #2 /#1)
  13. I seem to have pressed a few buttons and deleted a few thing by accident. Re posted the track in the original post, sorry
  14. Bit Elvis, Karen?
  15. This was played as the “Seven Souls”. What do you think of it? (Funny how things that are ‘covered up’ or ‘new discoveries’ sound different to when you know who they really are!)
  16. Today, all day in fact, I've been listening to 'Your Wonderful Sweet Sweet Love' previously U/R Brenda Hollaway
  17. John Are you lucky enough you actually own a copy of "Stevie"?
  18. also, no disrespect to peter (or yourself for your earlier thread), good thread and all that, but why would you want to unite the northern soul scene? even if you could (and you couldn't), it's the rows about records which make it fun, i say. dave carr gave me the biggest black eye i've ever had together with a split cheek in an argument about lou pride once (over whether it was 'i wrote my baby special d' as i said or 'i rode my baby specialty' as he claimed. never found out who was right. he didn't mean to do it, but either way you can't have those arguments on the modern jazz scene, i'll be bound ).
