  1. Dennis, frank(jackson) had two copies, also, and after a bit of heart wrenching teasing, let me have a copy. All the best Nigel A.
  2. A little bit to add, soul time, new soul time, steve 'siz'sale and dave mccadden?, chri savoury mag?, an early blues/soul mag, about 14 editions, from down south somewhere?, that was kindly reprinted for me via the original compiler, and didn't pat brady do one, talk of the north, all my copies , I still have, all in storage. And sadly, shortlived involvement/contribution for a mag, from pete lawson.
  3. Willie kendrick-stop this train
  4. Russell, has the lp got tommy starr-love wheel, on it. I've had the lp for about 30 years, when last played, was always under the impression, it was a different version, no dodgy stereo remixes, from memory. All the best, Nigel.
  5. Magnetics-the train
  6. I can just about move my legs in a chair these days, but three for me, are, Just bros-carlena, Eric mercury-lonely girl, Ray agee-I'm losing. If I am djing, Invitations-watch out little girl, Tony clarke-wrong man, Volumes- that same old feeling.
  7. Rick cooper, can probably add more than I can, but I went to House of sounds, in 1977/1978, if memory serves me, a number of floors, via a lift, locked in, and didn't find, many records, so and so, had just been, well gone through. But, as I've said before, didn't the sound of soul, records come out of there, ie E.J.chandler.
  8. I've just thought of this, in about 1977/1978, I went for a job in a local record wholesalers, Barathea blazer, black trousers, and sporting a va vas badge, on the breast pocket( I could have been an impression-you've been cheatin, because, unfortunately, I never went to the va vas, too young), but I got the job, did the badge help, who knows?.
  9. Very fortunate, where I live, a lot of places to go, and lots of people into the music.Early 70's after primary school, pop music and soul together, ie Mcguiness flint-when i'm dead and gone,Beach boys-sloop john b,Jackie wilson-i get the sweeest feeling,Bill withers-use me, and Main ingredient-evybody plays the fool, moving onto motown,Supremes-floy joy,R dean taylor-indiana wants me,Millie jackson-my man's a sweet man.Youth clubs,Paul mauriet-black is black,Wombat-i'm gettin on life,Gwen and ray-build your house on a strong foundation,Archie bell and the drells-here i go again. Disco, Just brothers-sliced tomatoes,Bob relf- blowing my mind to pieces,PP arnold-everythings gonna be alright,Arthur conley-funky street.Wigan casino, first night, on a friday, Yvonne baker- you did,t say a word.
  10. I've done this before on another thread, Ben Aiken-satisfied,female backing, german loma compilation ,sadly no cover to lp, so cannot provide any other info from sleeve notes etc.
  11. I haven't put this to paper(or computer) until now. I've only been to the states once, about 1978,with Rob Lythal, and we visited Val Shively.Records found, Joanne King-My baby left me(schoolteacher I do believe), Cooperettes-shing a ling(demo),Corvairs-ain't no soul, but more to the point, it was how to look. Every record filed away, probably no wonder, why you need a few days.Woe be tide anyone who puts a record back out of place. But you know, when he's closed shop, he's a different man, pure family orientated.
  12. The earliest venue, for badges, I went to was Wigan Casino from 1975 onwards, first night, I went with a couple of friends, one of whom', wore a bowling shirt with badges on.One badge he had sewn on was, an egg shaped easter all dayer badge? Since then, all my badges I have collected, ie original casino, ritz, and any other venues I went to. I still have them, no cotton or glue, anywhere near, all still in pristine condition.
  13. I cannot add a lot to this thread, apart from at wigan, hovis, hung around the stage at wigan, right hand side, facing stage, and when I knew him, indeed was very good aquaintance, with Alan Rhodes. Hovis was responsible, for nightwatch-lips to your heart.
  14. Yes he did, the story as I remember, was grapevine licencsed, the record via Bill Haley's wife, cuppy, who the label was named after, hence the confliction over its UK release.
  15. Global record sales, licensed the record, to Kev Roberts, via the connection cuppy had with swan.
  16. Ian, was ' House of Sounds', John Lamont's warehouse,( or was that, house of wax), if so, I am to believe, the sound of soul records, came from there ie EJ Chandler and Sandy Waddy. Schwartz Brothers had a quantity of the following, Hang On- Big Bird, New Breed- Diplomacy, and I Can Do It- Okeh demos, mind you though it was like fort knox, to get in.
  17. I usually spent all my time in the record bar, so when I had the urge to dance, it was at the back, left hand side as you came in. The only exception, I danced at the front, was near the front stage, near the gents toilets, as I used to mingle with the Preston crowd, Skat Cat etc, and searlings, first plays of Cecil Washington and Vickie Baines. Mind you though, there were some incredible dancers there, midweek.
  18. Early motown, via a neighbour, who's brother is into rare northern, John Parker, now in York. Northern at Burscough Football Club, care of Soulspinners 4,(Bob Relf, PP Arnold, Ray Whitely, Arthur Conley etc), early 70's. Further northern soul education, at Wigan Casino, November 1975, Yvonne Baker, formation dancing, packed dancefloor, all in rows. Then, monday, wednesday, friday, saturday at Wigan Casino, followed by backpool mecca, ritz all dayers on the sunday.
  19. Supremes-you're my driving wheel, should have been, three degrees-drivin me mad( it did for years).
  20. Thanks Pete, for correcting me, since dicovered, chris recorded, aggravation, so chances are, it was a bobby coleman, uk demo, and a, aggravation, acetate, about the only two records he had, for some reason
  21. Chris Curtis(searchers drummer),at wigan casino, he had a uk demo of bobby coleman-pleasure girl, he wrote the b side, aggravation.Sean McLusky(Jo Boxer), regular at the hundred club.
  22. Just googled vox pop for you, details as follows, Mon-Sat-10am-6pm, 0161-273-8794, e mail-enquiries@voxpopmusic.com, Vox pop ltd,unit 1,wellington mill,pollard street east, manchester M40 7FS.
  23. Records in storage, charades-I don't want to lose you-mgm demo, edge chip( fortunately I had two copies), chancellors-all the way to heaven ( had for 35 years), it started getting plays, dug my copy out, small crack in run in, nap, even noticed it, as eyesight deteriates over the years. Also slightly off topic, matt lucas-baby you better go go, hundreds of records, piled up, while crate diggin', in america, only soul rcord left, and only centre of record, and a piece of vinyl attached, left.
  24. Just been googling it for you, plus two uk sellers, pat brady (not listed), and your mate Mr Manship ( jenges orig issue only). Uk seller e bay (society records) august 2011, £75, no less. And lastly, pete, is this your second copy, as, you listed one in April 2009, not that you usually, take that long to sell records at your cheap prices. All the best.
  25. Check out soulful kinda music, jacklyn listing, both releases, and all tracks are on you tube.
