  1. June Jackson- mint- £45, grant rankin, sunday sales.
  2. Dave, thank you for the information, about the book on line, it was always difficult to find in its original format, how we've moved on with technology. Also the heading does say, some pages have bee omitted. I have also put reference in my favourites, and to read complete attachment, scroll upwards to page one, dead easy!( are you reading robbk).
  3. My copy was purchased in 1980, alongside the ivories-despenza, volumes-impact, dramatics-sport, four sights-shy-soul, etc all at two pounds each, my copy of the mighty lovers( both sides, detroit chugger and one side crossover), gets played at the rare opportunity I get to dj. I personally would value it at betwween £100- £150, sadly my copy isn't for sale either.
  4. Sorry I cannot supply details of a supplier, but if you visit car boots, charity shops, or high street chemists, ( who sell make-up gift sets; brushes etc), they sometimes come in cases ideal for singles, I know, because I visit these places myself, and Ive managed to find a few. Clear hard plastic and metallic fronts, good luck with any future searches,( I incidentally, live in the north-west), all the best, soulfully yours, Nigel A.
  5. Has anybody else tried downloading a sound file, I have and all I get is luring pictures of females advertising a russian relationship, also my firewall stopped a virus attack.
  6. Dave, you're right with the name, still around, pops into local soul do's in southport. He was always on the button, soul twins orig, springs to mind. There are/were quite a few with collections, uk and US,quite a lot of knowledgable collectors in the north west, even wid, was a local boy. The last time I saw you dave, was when I worked down south, and we travelled on the train together, to a brighton record fair, and ' uncle wid ', kindly replaced a copy of dd warwick- worth every tear I cry, for me. All the best, Nigel A.
  7. I worked in nottingham early 80's, and rob (rob smith's records), kindly sold me two records, amongst others, I had off him, Ivorys- please stay, and Satisfactions- Take it or leave it. There was another record shop, next door, way ahead records, they did promotion for rock concerts, and got all cbs demos, at the time, they kept all the rock, and sold me all the soul.
  8. Wigan, when most things were cheap, seven souls £2, as tempo was too slow, so does life as I age, later early 80's, patti austin. pain stain issue off john anderson's list, mind you though, you had to be pretty quick then, ended up with 5 copies of the climates-breakin up, and a chat about the early days.

  12. Thanks for the reply, as I still collect, I keep hold of most records these days, but thank you for the offer! When I got mine it was a special order for me, with the following lp's; Bettye Swann, Sam Cooke, Chris Kenner and Otis Redding and Carla Thomas. Nigel A.
  13. Read this thread with interest, I used to work for a record wholesaler based in hampshire/surrey ( 1980- 1988), we used to import from various countries, especially Japan. i bought a copy of this LP for myself (£4.75), still have it! All the best, Nigel A.
  14. I can add a little to this thread, lots of uk 60's soul , all originals, ie Lou Johnson ep, esther philips-I just can't say goodbye, and two copies of benny spellman-fortune teller, plus many other titles.
  15. Baz, glad to see you've had a few suggestions, for record shops etc, I can only make one small contribution, if you google, John's Boy- Texas, sadly not listed anything for four years, but I used to buy off them about 30 years ago, when they used to do some amazing wholesale lists, Rca demos etc. Multiple copies of each. Another bit of information at present, but again, might be of no use now, if I can locate the details before you go I will e mail you, Is a shack I visited, all the abc's, linda elliot etc, and for anybody, who collects beatles, yesterday and today U.S. copies( butcher sleeve), un peeled, apart from the one shown, to a good friend of mine and I, who I went to the states with, incidentally the place was in the middle of nowhere, and we were taken there, by someone who exchanged dusty springfield (springfields records) in return. Happy hunting, all the best, Nigel A.
  16. Bought two rca issues at wigan, early morning off a lad just coming in, they didn't reach the record bar, still have them, Roy Hamilton-Crackin up, Percy Wiggins-It didn't take much, both black rca off course.(£2 each).
  17. I'll try not to make an essay out of this topic, but from a personal level, I was fortunate to be turned onto soul/northern by neighbours in my street, two brothers, the eldest now being a renowned rare soul dj. And all this coming from, what was once a village, now expanding called BURSCOUGH. We had our own original Burscough Football Club were four djs took over the disco at the time, the Fantastic Four were called the Soulspinners, from Burscough and Ormskirk. Lads from kirkby travelled on their scooters in all their glory, parka- fishtails, and numerous mirrors and aerials on their scooters. I've lived in Nottingham and Surrey, and with surrounding areas both had a collective soul congregation. And just to finish off there is indeed a keith bradley( Ormskirk) very good friends with the late Pete Lawson.
  18. The first time cecil washington c/u was played at wigan, I and a few others stayed on the dance floor( to dance of course), and Richard Searling, actually thanked us with his appreciation. Happy days, vickie baines etc.
  19. Also came out on spanish Beacon, same design as uk, but no centre.
  20. Jackie Payne, stairsteps, platters seem cheap to me, even for resale, although I've already got my own copies.
  21. As I posted earlier, I visited paul in 78, he gave free reign, to look through shop stock, and I was treated well, meanwhile off to the car boot, might find an original Robby Lawson, perhaps!.
  22. I visited Paul Kyser, about 1978, he didn't have any robbie lawsons then, but plenty of copies of superbs- happiest girl in the world.
  23. I'm sure a good few records have come out of robs, my two in 1980, ivories-despenza, satisfactions-take it or leave it(issue).Sorry, forgot to add £2 each.
  24. Steve, interesting submission to the thread, used to get his lists, if I'm not mistaken, always cheap, and a nice guy as well.
