  1. Keep the faith probably goes back a bit further than the 60s, I expect Jesus said something like it, and I know for sure he had a glove.
  2. What a pity, he's a great dj.,
  3. Trouble is none of the top jocks own this tune, or else it would be on everyones want list. (and I'm only half joking).
  4. to say that Kojak was a character is something of an understatement, to say he was a bit of a wide-boy is nearer the mark. Can any one remember his ill-fated soul extravaganza at the Norbreck Castle in Blackpool in the 70s, a lot of people put their faith in him and were badly let down, he had lots of big ideas but they didn't always come off. But he did give me a chance to dj for him in the early days of Yate, ( I still had to pay to get in though!) Once me and Terry Davis went all the way to Bournemouth from London to play the records before and after the set by the Tymes (Ms Grace was a hit at the time) the attendance was lousy, so me and Terry were fobbed off with £5 for our trouble. What an insult, everybody knew that I didn't dj for less than £7.50 in those days!! Tony
  5. Its really nice and what makes it even better is that I had it all the time as the b side of Funky St Thanks
  6. In defence of Suzy's Serenade it made more sense as a dancer in the early days of the scene 'cos the style of dancing was slightly different back then. Sexy Sugar Plum also made sense because there was a dance (that I could never master) that folks used to do to that type of record. Tony
  7. Shadows and Reflections was also done in the UK by the great 60s band the Action. Its excellent by them. The Lonely Crowde is however dog rare. Worst records Lenny Gamble c/u Kiss my love good bye The aeroplane song......
  8. dunno about using powdered french talc, round about that time lots of us were using a solid form of french blue.
  9. "So right for today's scene" - used to be sold as a ballad
  10. Thanks for the mention of Pauline Shriver, never heard of it before, went to the Soul Club, listened to it and won it on ebay earlier this evening. Fast work eh! Tony
  11. The Jayboy releases are the real deal, nothing to do with Sousann
  12. Tainted Love by some pop group
  13. not sure if anyone will get this, its a bit tricky Out on the floor tonight I'm really movin'
  14. So its a shit record and the seller must be from another planet, but I'm sure there weren't that many of us who rushed off the floor at Casino complaining about it. I'm afraid our musical memeories sometimes get clouded in the light of how we feel about those Wigan pop records now. I do seem to remember the floor was still packed for Gary Lewis, Keith, Brian Hyland, Nosmo King, Lorraine Silver and the rest, as much as it was for all the "proper" northern sounds that were played. Tony
  15. Don't think I'm being cynical, Gavin, but surely no dealer is going to put anything halfway decent in a soul pack these days.
  16. Sotherbys would not approve of this practice. A mate told me that he was bidding on a tune on the biggest northern auction site, he was bidding against another buyer who wanted the same record and as the auction reached the final minute the finishing time kept being extended by a minute, so the price kept increasing. Another dirty trick to be aware of ?!!
  17. I'll do anything for you Al Johnson on Marina. Bloody marvellous!!! and usually only £6 ish
  18. Agree with you about Ivor's do, great music, atmosphere etc, although during one dj's spot it threatened to turn into a bit of a singalonganorthern.
  19. I've has a couple of issues over the years, sold them for not much at all in the days when people were more sensible
  20. My mate Gary says its not just having the records, its playing them in the right order.
  21. Jon You've got too much time on your hands Tony ps ta for the photo
  22. Couldn't agree more, Russ Tony
  23. Jerry I'm sure I would have taken legal action if someone had advertised me to dj without actually asking me (hoho) and I've lost my diary for 1976 (it would have made good reading tho), so it must have taken place. Although on the other hand I was a bit out of it sometimes (can't think why though). Agree with you about the lost Yate tapes, they were a lorra fun although I didn't I was such a cockney in those days! Tony Ellis
  24. I've had El Anthony since the mid 70s and when it was about 60p and I won't hold my breath waiting for it to go big.
