  1. Sotherbys would not approve of this practice. A mate told me that he was bidding on a tune on the biggest northern auction site, he was bidding against another buyer who wanted the same record and as the auction reached the final minute the finishing time kept being extended by a minute, so the price kept increasing. Another dirty trick to be aware of ?!!
  2. I'll do anything for you Al Johnson on Marina. Bloody marvellous!!! and usually only £6 ish
  3. Agree with you about Ivor's do, great music, atmosphere etc, although during one dj's spot it threatened to turn into a bit of a singalonganorthern.

I've has a couple of issues over the years, sold them for not much at all in the days when people were more sensible

  7. Couldn't agree more, Russ Tony
  8. Jerry I'm sure I would have taken legal action if someone had advertised me to dj without actually asking me (hoho) and I've lost my diary for 1976 (it would have made good reading tho), so it must have taken place. Although on the other hand I was a bit out of it sometimes (can't think why though). Agree with you about the lost Yate tapes, they were a lorra fun although I didn't I was such a cockney in those days! Tony Ellis
  9. I've had El Anthony since the mid 70s and when it was about 60p and I won't hold my breath waiting for it to go big.
  10. I've got Phyllis Dillon on Treasure Isle singing One life to live which is actually Sheila Anthony's Livin' in love Also have Gregory Issacs doing Open the door to your heart

I heard some sad news last night. Juggy Murray owner of the Sue label died a couple of weeks ago.

I love the Grapevine 2000 stuff, but have resisted buying too many as I reckon £10 for these reissues is a bit over the top. What do you people think?
  16. The Daisies Coldwave
  17. The Torch was something special, especially to us Southerners making our first tentative steps on the Northern Scene. For us and I expect many others it was also special because the scene was still very much in its infancy, we were all there for one thing, some good gear and to hear some fantastic records. I also like to think that there was no politics and backbiting in those days, but I suspect some people disliked Levine even then!
  18. I think I've got a copy, I'll check tonight Tony

Get well soon mate, all the best for a speedy recovery... Tony Ellis
  20. Great track, but nothing compares to Stumble and Fall, it's magnificent!!! the b side, Quiet Guy, is also F.A.B.
  21. Saw Len Jewell in Kojak once. And Delores Hall is in some daytime detective tosh that plays now and again.
  22. Don't knock Out on the Floor, when I was much much younger and the record was new to the scene, it summed what it was all about. i wouldn't play it out now but it still holds some great memories Tony

Don't remember anything like that, maybe it was all too new then...
  24. How about The Grasshopper by Doris Duke? A great soul singer reduced to singing tosh! There was something about the name "Contempo" that didn't inspire confidence, even though they put out a few good records. Check out Ted Taylor's I wanna be part of you. Its magic!
  25. Agree with this, Billy Joe Young is a great record. I'm sure they played it at the Mecca as well.
