  11. Difficult to tie it down to one tune, so can I have a little bit of each I'll do anything for you Al Johnson on Marina You ought to be with me Carl Weathers can't remember label tony
  12. One of the worst I've ever danced on has to be at the legendary Shades of Green club in Camberley. It featured a unique (in my experience) sloping dance floor. tony
  13. Good to see this record getting some recognition at last. I first heard this in the mid 70s at ace Detroit collector, Dick Watt's house. I picked it up shortly after that for about for around 3/6d on Bumpshop. (the price of a good fish supper in those days) That's all really, I just wanted to boast about how cheap I got it for... Tony
  14. Hiya Ady Still got the copy of All of a Sudden that you sold me all those years ago when you first came back from the States, but I'm not selling, so there! Tony E
  15. BBC Radio Stoke's Mary Frost has a northern show. You can listen on the internet. Just type in Mary Frost Northern Soul into Google and links will appear like magic. Tony
  16. Its "What about the music" by Billy Harner on Kama Sutra Tony
  17. I don't like dance comps that much, as the standard and style of dancing isn't what it was when I were a young lad at the Twisted Porch. If we do have to have them, here's an idea, which takes into account the advanced years of many northern fans. Different categories should be introduced, ie prizes for dancers in the 18-35 age range, and another in the 36-45 range, and finally special bravery awards for those willing to risk heart attacks and other life threatening illnesses in the 46 and over competition. Tony Ellis
  18. Gene, I don't think it was me that played Monkey Spanner, at the 100 Club, it was more likely to have been Tony Rounce, who was prone to doing that sort of thing. I did however, play Mrs Miller's Lovers Concerto, for a lark at Yate once, I had a full floor until the vocal started, then the slow handclaps started and I faded it. sharpish. Tony Ellis
  19. I was at the Torch the first time Major Lance played there, great atmosphere, but the band were crap, and he sung My Sweet Lord. Mick Smith's memories of Love you Baby vocal/inst being played back to back, reminded me that one of the djs used to play Cracking up over you, followed by both versions of Cracked up over you. Happy times, it was all so uncomplicated in those far off days just after the war when you could get from London to Tunstall for under a £1 and still have enough left over for a chip supper and some gear.
  20. Lover - Delites I still love you - Superlatives Terrible Tom Coundown - Tempos Happy to say that at age 50+ I can still dance to these, but not one after the other!
  21. How about "Ask the lonely" by the 4 Tops for pure soul heaven.
