  1. Dear All, Yes, some of us have lived and danced to the legendary allnighter / soul night enders of the scene ,in years gone by , namely the "Three Before Eight" but after the influence on the scene from the eighties with various music forms re Stafford , Rotherham , Morecambe , Keele , 100 Club , and abroad , etc ... What would be your final three in a row ? Mines to get the ball rolling : Harry Starr - Another Time , Another Place Tempests - Someday Ascots - Another Day Regardless if it's sixties , modern , crossover , lets hear them ,
  2. Bernard Williams - It's Needless to Say / Focused on You - Harthon Quality all the way
  3. In the late 90's whilst working in London I found out she was part of the " usual " Motown Tour going on at one of the theatres in the west end , I could'nt get tickets as it was a sell out , but took the " Watchout " album down to the foyer a day before on the off chance that she might be able to autograph it for me . On the day of the concert I turned up at the theatre to collect my album where I was then summoned to a room !! In the room was Martha , Edwin Starr and Mary Wilson talking and drinking , they invited me in, and for the next hour talked about their lives at motown , friends , families , etc .... it was an amazing experience and I duly left with two front row tickets and a host of autographs , Yes , these days her voice has seen better days but she will always be a true star in my eyes , Happy New Year to you all
  4. Yes it is !!!! Charlie & the Jives were the priemer dance band at the Eastwood Country Club In San Antonio around 1960 to 1962 and some of the artist that played for Charlie were some of the best around. Eastwood Country Club In San Antonio had some of the best blues artist. A famous blues club of the 50's and 60's.One thing that distinguished San Antonio from other clubs in the south and maybe in the country in the 50's, is that in a time when everything was racially segregated, the club and musical groups and bands were not, they were integrated. Charlies band were always filled with some of the best blues players, usually backing a solid R&B vocalist like Louis Madison (Original Famous Flames), Bobby Taylor (Bobby Taylor and the VanCouvers-Cheech and Chong films), Benny Easley a guy who was stranded in San Antonio when his "Ink Spots" gig folded. Spot Barnett piano player(Dottie (wizzer) White, the Royal Jesters and Doug Sahms bands in one form or another. But only Charlie & the Jives had Jitterbug Webb. One of the best Blues guitar players around. Playing with The Group is: Jitterbug Webb, Charlie Alvarado, Louis Madison, Bobby Taylor, Benny Easley, Dottie White, Spot Barnett, Randy Garibay, Ernie Durawa-Drums.

  10. Ladies / Gents In the glory days of Wigan Casino and more importantly in the " This England " documentary mention is made of the regulars from far afield ,who regularly used to travel week in week out, from abroad !, the outer reaches of scotland and deepest darkest cornwall , to dance and meet friends , BUT !! I know some of the scotland crowd who said bollocks to this travelling melarky in the those days and moved to southport , preston , wigan and manchester so the Casino was on their doorsteps on a sunday morning !!!! Like a lot of others did from around the country , So who is / was the regular nighter furthest travelled attendees of those / these days and how far do you regularly travel , Weekly / Fortnightly / Monthly to your regular do ? Happy New Year To You All

  12. Johnny Taylor - Blues in the Night - Stax Yes it came out on a cd last year , but not a lot of dj's play it unless they're doing a purist or regular early 60's spot nighter crowd , Hammered at the start by the few but laid to rest now, until the next revival,

  14. Having lived and breathed the nighter route in my teens / early 20's (fri and sat back to back for years !!!!!!!!! ) I cannot praise enough the soul nights in my area, hull / york / scboro and brid for quality of music and friendliness, I was one of the original Stafford TOTW purists who was GLAD to see the demise of Wigan ( now there's a thread !! ) and the associated sounds , now married , career , kids etc ..... I get out a couple of times a month for a dance and a few beers , Quality

  24. Dear All, Without harping on about the recent auction prices for some of the big hitter records out there and more importanlty some of the small hitter records out there , commanding good prices , namely Shirley Lawson , on a well known auction site earlier , where will it all end ? My example , family guy , married , one young kid , mortgage , debt , etc ....................... Fave Record : Silhouettes , Not Me Baby : Single to buy £800 - £1000 , bought last month original album £100 with track , same sound , label , etc, top quality !!! But that's not the issue ( excuse the pun ) !!!!!!!!!! My soapbox is , if you've got the cash , you'll get the record !! and drive the prices up for the rest of us or down in the economic climate , Records a good investment ? Rightly or wrongly we'd all love that lottery cheque through the post on a monday morn , but we still love the fun in the chase !!! Now if you'll excuse me , I need to give the staff the rest of the night off as I play my 56th ebay purchase of the Four Tracks !!!!!!!!!!!!! My butler will handle any further enqs
  25. R Dean Taylor , Tammi Lynn , and Derek and Ray all spring to mind , a village hall , with about 200 kids on a thursday night , supervised by 4 elderly women !! Disco's were comical , huge groups of people standing around whilst they played three record sets to trying to please everyone !!!! The soulies set was normally between the skinheads and rock n ' roll bits , Youth is definetly wasted on the young !!
