  9. Talking of video cameras Steve , what ever happened to the video of Glenrothes 1st Anniversary !! Jim Tennant assured me weeks later it was for private viewing only but I'd love to see a copy nowadays !!! Still got me paper patch !! If there was ever a time to celebrate the years of The Crown at Thornton , Glenrothes , Allanton , etc .. that put the scots scene on the map as a monthly ride up north for our english comrades in those dark and gloomy recession hIt eighties ( no change there in nearly thirty years !! ) it's NOW !!! Let's get a bloody national reunion organised !!!! Although I think we'd need a full risk assessment for the table dancers nowadays !!!
  10. Milestone was a NYC jazz label which was owned by Orrin Keepnews, the man behind the legendary Riverside jazz label. When Riverside folded he started Mileston in the late 60s, with LPs from Gary Bartz, Joe Henderson and Phil Upchirck among others. It was not until the mid-70s that the venture rose to prominence with jazz/funk hits from the likes of Azymuth, Flora Purim and Sonny Rollins. In the early days a handful of singles were issued and this Karmello Brooks one is almost certainly a one-off. It was aimed primarily at the supper club jazz market judjing by the A-side ballad 'You're Breaking My Heart', but perhaps producer Phil Moore III cut his own ballad, then she would get to put one of her own compositions on the flip. That turned out to be 'Tell me baby', which is very removed from the world of jazz, save for one moment of scat singing slipped into the middle. It's basically one of those well-orchestrated pop songs that were recorded by the likes of Laura Nyro, Samantha Jones or Azie Mortimer in the late 60s and this one has the best tune of them all. An outstanding record , and a bargain at any price

  18. Both my parents were mods in Glasgow in the sixties listening to the local groups , like The Poets , etc ,, so I was virtually brought up listening to motown . When I grew older as a kid and the hormones kicked in I ended up watching Quadrophenia one night at a mates and the rest as they say is all down hill from there !!! In my day , childcare was done by granny !! Picked up and dropped off religiously before and after school so my folks could get to work . No Cebeebies then ! Just hundreds and hundreds of 45's and a dansette player to contend with , It's a sad state of affairs at 7 yrs of age when you know the B side of The Surfaris - Wipe Out , is Surfer Joe !! Anyway sought out the " in crowd " at high school leading to youth club disco's , parties , scooter runs , collecting records and preferred the music more to the dress style , eventually listened more to my mate's big brothers , ex wigan / mecca and converted to the scene , however I and many others at the time owe it to the movie above to point us in the the right direction , or should I say " TO BE SOMEBODY " So there you go , 30 yrs condensed into a few paragraphs !!!
