  1. HR 1538 - SOUL MEDITATIONS – Someone To Hold Me / The Bird Collectors of the Ovide label from Houston Texas will know this to be ridiculously rare and one of the best 45s on the label. Cut in 1967 with Skipper Lee Frazier producing, it’s the kind of tough-to-find and semi-unknown we like to bring back to life on the label. Wonderful male vocal group midpacer of the kind that’s really popular with the chill-out sessions at the moment and sure to be popular with our Chicano California collectors circle. HR 1539 GEORGE SCOTT : I’m A Fool For You + Let The Past Be The Past / Why Is It Taking So Long His cult-collectable Johnny Brantley New Jersey produced 1971 Maple LP was reissued in 2015 but there has never been a 45 of any of the tracks – so this bonus 3 track 45/EP is fully OVO compliant. Two wonderful ballads on the A side including one with 3 million youtube plays – these both will get big plays in the US and on the midtempo chill-out room dancefloors of the UK; the flip here is the lesser known version of the Crossover dancer also cut by Johnny Brantley on Nate Adams and Tony Baxter and is a pretty good number in it’s own right.. £12 each + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records) paypal – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com HR 1539 - George Scott - A1 I'm A Fool For You 2.24 reference copy.mp3

  3. FINALLY – AFTER FOUR MONTHS PRESSING PLANT DELAY - TWO NEW HR 45 RELEASES Release date 22 January 2022 - in stock now and ready to mail. £12 each + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records) paypal – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com HR 1534 DELEGATES OF SOUL – What A Lucky Guy I Am + I’ll Keep Running Back / Don’t Take Your Love From Me + Girl I’m At Your Door Yes, that’s right – a 4 track 45 for the price of £12. The A side contains the 2 tracks from the 1970 Up-look 45 (recently £1,415 on auction) – classic Northern in ‘Running’ was re-released in 2005, but the great midpacer ‘Lucky’ has never been 45 re-released and sounds great for today. The 2 tracks on the ‘B’ side are 1970 and unreleased until the Grapevine Uplook CD in 2006, now making their debut on vinyl and are very worthy of their inclusion. HR 1535 SYMPHONIES - That’s What Love Will Don / Need Someone To Love Been trying to get a girl group 45 into the catalogue for some time and finally managed one that will work. ‘A’ side is a beautiful production from 1969 and at one time thought to be a ‘missing number’ in the Carnival discog, one on Discogs right now at £1,500 – and with over ONE MILLION plays on youtube. Two quality midpace/ballad sides. HR 1535 The Symphonies - Need Someone To Love 3.09 ref copy.mp3 HR 1535 The Symphonies - That's What Love Will Do 3.07 ref copy.mp3
  4. Hi Andy - yes, 50 demos
  5. As most folks now know, the lead times for new vinyl manufacture is getting ridiculous. Hit and Run are presently working on 20 weeks from start to finish tho' that does vary from week to week. For that reason, it is now impossible to give an actual release date so far in advance and for that reason alone I won't take advance orders or even send out promo mp3s so frar in advance or, as Dean says, by the time the vinyl is actually released the pre-plays have faded somewhat. I suspect cashflow is at the heart of this; with the delay of 20 weeks, if you're trying to schedule a release a month it means you need to have 5 releases in the queue at the plant (HR currently have EIGHT in line) in order to achieve continuity- that's a lot of royalty advances, MCPS, mastering costs, pressing costs. Some of the recent labels possibly wouldn't want to make that commitment. If you have enough confidence in your release to actually release it, then believe it will actually sell when it gets released - I don't quite get this pre-ordering simply for FOMO. My pressing run is 400 + 50 and I haven't yet sold out within 2 months - which is ample time for someone who actually wants it to buy it.
  6. My view on this in regard to 'Hit and Run' label is that I simply don't solicit or accept pre-orders. There are simply too many things that can go wrong in production and cause delays - and selfishly perhaps - I don't want to be having to take time to field enquiries about why folks haven't received their orders. And for that reason I've taken to not announcing forthcoming releases until I actually have them shown as shipped from the factory - otherwise a mountain of orders come flying in when I've no exact date as to when I can mail out. I guess I can take that stance having not to worry about cashflowing future releases.
  7. Several cuts on youtube. 2022 'Hit and Run' 45 will be : Don't Take Your Love + Here I Am / How I Feel Inside
  8. Thanks to all for their input on my enquiry. Look out for a Hit and Run 45 in 2022, subject to pressing plant vagaries...
  9. Thank you, Blackpoolsoul. As the tracks seems to have been cut in Va. not NJ - does anyone have any idea of the studio(s) used ?
  10. Wonderful - thanks so much, saves me having to schlepp through each individual mag. If you do find any extra info from Greg, please post. Much appreciated.
  11. Hi Andy Thanks for your feedback. I did check with DP first - not at his fingertips, sadly LOL His personal index doesn't show anything identifying the article. Best, Garry
  12. Does anyone out there have an index of 'Shades' showing which issue Greg's interview on The New Sounds is in, please ?

An A side that’s pretty rare and sounds so right for today. Our flip carries 2 tracks – B1 - the album only track with the sax break and B2 – always a popular Northern winner. A WILLIE and WEST - Attica Massacre B1 - WILLIE & The Mighty Magnificents – Get Away From Me Girl B2 - WILLIE & The Mighty Magnificents - Check It Baby HR 1532 - CYNTHIA and THE IMAGINARY 3 – That’s What I Am (Without You) / Many Mood (of a man) Cynthia’s 2 Blue Rock 45s have really gained in popularity over the years. This Detroit winner from Johnnie Mae Matthews’ label was always much rarer – and many would rate it far higher too. Great femme ballad flip. 16. Two new 45 releases from Hit & Run records - Tut Sutton & Paul Thompson Release date 10th June 2021 HR 1529 TUT SUTTON – No Appreciation / I Can Feel The Tears Originally released on USA Records in 1966, an ultra-rare Chicago midpace dancer. Both sides sound just right for today. If you’re looking for a copy on the US USA Records - one is listed here - www.raresoulman.co.uk/154393-i-can-feel-the-tears-appreciation.html Video - Tut Sutton - No Appreciation Video - Tut Sutton - I Can Feel The Tears HR 1530 PAUL THOMPSON – Having A Little Talk With Love / Let Me Be A Man Paul Thompson appears to have had only one record release – his June 1970 Modern dance classic on Stax subsidiary label Volt ‘Special Kind Of Woman’, recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound and leased/sold to Stax. That release didn’t get the sales so when a further 2 full sessions were recorded in September 1970 they remained on the shelf in Muscle Shoals until I stumbled upon them 15 years ago. A coupling of a mid-pace Phillip Mitchell song c/w a contender for the best unreleased male Southern deep soul record you never heard. Now over 50 years old and sounding just brilliant. Listen to both sides below... Release date 10th June 2021 - in stock now and ready to mail. £12 each + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records) paypal – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com Interested in a demo ? please PM me.

  18. ANNOUNCING TWO NEW HR 45 RELEASES - Release date 1st April 2021. Taking orders now with paypal - £12 each + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records) paypal – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com HR 1527 SONIA ROSS - Let Me Be Free / Don’t Go Breaking My Heart A coupling here of 2 ultra rare and brilliant dance tracks from Atlanta Ga. 1969s ‘Let me be free’ is possibly the rarest Tragar 45 with reputedly only 100 being pressed to fulfil a contractual obligation; the flip Don’t Go Breaking My Heart was originally recorded in 1968 and destined for a Tragar release but delayed as considered too sensual for a Southern audience and released one year later. SONIA ROSS - Let Me Be Free SONIA ROSS - Don’t Go Breaking My Heart HR 1528 MARVIN SMITH – There Must Be Peace For Me / I Never Thought I’d Be Losing You The 2nd of our 2 45s of Marvin’s unreleased 70s Chicago productions. ‘A’ side here is the very in-demand side, previously known only by the Richard Searling acetate which has built quite a reputation over the last 30 years; the flip is Marvin’s brilliant and better original version of the Major Lance 45 on Soul. There Must Be Peace For Me https://www.dropbox.com/s/afrieyitzlna3dn/HR 1528 A - Marvin Smith - There Must Be Peace 3.41 reference copy.mp3?dl=0 Losing You https://www.dropbox.com/s/98t7f3lcep261no/HR 1528 B - Marvin Smith - I Never Thought I'd Be Losing You 3.53 reference copy.mp3?dl=0
  19. ANNOUNCING –TWO NEW HR 45 RELEASES - originally scheduled for 1st February 2021, Covid-delayed but now all present and correct and ready to mail out. Taking orders now with paypal £12 each 45 + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records). paypal – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com. HR 1525 OTIS CLAY - I Lost Someone (alternate unreleased take) / Nothing To Look Forward To / I Lost Someone. (yep, 3 tracks for the usual price) The iconic Otis Clay - here with 3 wonderful One-Derful masters from 1966 Chicago. The original plan was to issue 'Nothing To Look Forward To' ( unreleased until the Japanese P-Vine LP in 1979) with 'I Lost Someone' (unreleased until the P-Vine LP in 1990). When supplying the masters, an alternate take of 'I Lost Someone' came to light; unable to choose, we decided the right thing to do was to include both versions. Three truly great mid 60s midpace dance tracks. I Lost Someone - www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU1xQ7ToHSQ Nothing To Look Forward To - www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF8r62HnMJU HR 1526 BRENDA VARNER - Don't Give Up On Me / Let Me Be A Woman Brenda was married to Don Varner at the time he was recording down in Sheffield, Alabama at Quinvy / Broadway Studios - although she also had 45s released under the name Brenda Duff - these 2 tracks are all that is in the can from that early 70s Quinvy era. Unreleased until the Charly 1989 LP brought them to light, they have never had a 45 release. The 'A' side here is a very tasteful midpace dancer which has gained sporadic plays over the years; the flip here is classic Southern deepsoul from the mighty Muscle Shoals writing talents of George Soule & Terry Woodford. Don't Give Up On Me - www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BEvJ8c74L8&t=70s (interestingly, David Johnson has no knowledge of such a 45 existing) Let Me Be A Woman - http://www.dropbox.com/.../HR 1526 B - Brenda... £12 each + £3 UK postage; paypal - hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com . 21. New releases from Hit and Run - January 2021 HR 1523 DON BRYANT – Cloudy Days / Just A Touch Of Your Hand One of what will be occasional deep soul 45s on the label. In 1967 Detroit’s Wheelsville group of labels took some artists down to Willie Mitchell’s Royal Studio in Memphis. Willie had the Hi house band in, he produced and Don Bryant guided the Detroit artists with his vocals. Later the songs were cut on Jim Coleman and Al Gardner – but what we have here is classic era Memphis deep soul. Unreleased at the time, finally got a CD release in 2006 – and here for the first time on vinyl & 45. Take a listen. HR 1524 JOHNNIE MAE MATTHEWS – I Have No Choice / My Destination For our other release this time we’re entering classic territory. Simply an all-time iconic record which sounds as bright today as it ever did. For me, this is the best version of the wonderful Sharon McMahan song. The world-weary delivery from JM almost makes this a deepsoul wonder set at a mid-tempo dance pace. Our flip here is a real raunchy 1963 r&b Mod dancer on the ‘Northern’ Detroit label, great side – unbelievable 57 years old – maybe explains why every copy I’ve ever found has been truly knackered. AVAILABLE NOW AND READY FOR SHIPPING £12 each 45 + £3 postage (good for 1-3 records) - paypal to – hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com Interested in a demo ? please PM me. 24. Announcing 2 recent releases on the Hit and Run label : HR 1521 MARVIN SMITH - Heartache Comin' On / Hearts Made Of Stone Two totally wonderful mid-70s Chicago previously unreleased tracks - A-side is a classic Chicago midpacer, B-side a super super ballad. After all his iconic Artistics and later solo sides, we all know Marvin's ability as a vocalist; both sessions here are self-produced and arranged by the great Tom Washington with The Kitty Haywood Singers backing. Marvin spent so much money on the sessions he couldn't then manage to get them released till over 40 years later. That's it for the sale blurb folks - this deal took 7 months to get over the line, I hope you like it. HR 1522 - COCO and BEN - Good Feelin' / See The World A totally wonderful Memphis indie 45 from 1979. First brought to these shores by Arthur Fenn around 1982, very limited copies of this ever surfaced. Last seen on ebay over 7 years ago, now must be in the £1,500 region. A few carvers seem to exist around £20 - you can buy a legitimate release here for £12 - Coco is alive and living in Memphis and the advance royalties have gone directly to her. Brilliant female vocal - still sounds as great to me today as it did when I first heard it all those years ago from a Robin Salter cassette. Here's a youtube link with an enthusiastic narrative from JM The flipside 'See The World' is pretty good too - and here's Ted's youtube £12 each + £3 UK postage; simply paypal - hitandrunsoul45@gmail.com ( UK postage £3.00 / EU postage (untracked) £4.00 - is good for 1-3 records) HR 1521 A - Marvin Smith - Heartache Coming On 2.53 ref copy.mp3 HR 1521 B - Marvin Smith - Hearts Made Of Stone 3.35 ref copy.mp3 HR 1522 A - Coco & Ben - Good Feelin' 3.57 ref copy.mp3 HR 1552 B - Coco & Ben - See The World (As It Is) 3.47 ref copy.mp3
