  1. help wanted please, did this record ever come out as a single? was it an LP track? Acetate? Regards confused dot com
  2. The waiting is over, now sorted, thanks
  3. The Passionettes - my fault, ain't heard that played out for years, it's that good i'm gonna dig my copy out & play it at the next pure soul.
  4. Coming back from Ibstock last night one record came up in conversation "The Spinners", Lynn says she only paid £3 for the one she bought me, so is that why i don't play it, to which i replied..."it don't have to be expensive to be good", examples :- Wade Flemons, watch over her £20 class, Jeanette £350, bloody awful, & theres loads of other examples like jackie wison, Just be sincere £10, great double sider, because of you £75/£100, sick of hearing it etc
  5. Some great tracks, but, The phonetics & the Blue Jays were the 2 for me
  6. We used to finish the west end Coalville off with the Drifter (me, Don Charles or Ray Pollard, or Bob with Ray or long john baldry) At Pure soul Nuneaton, if i'm on last i finish anything (normally too pissed to know) however Lynn tells me i finished once with George Freeman - Down & out, & another time it was another of her favs Hattie Winston - pass me by If Shawry is on last, he normally bangs an up-tempo tune on Regards...the phantom janitor
  7. i've got it on ja wes , had it for @ 20yrs, it's one of my favs
  8. The 90s were brill, Bretby, the holy cross(Leics)etc etc. with the likes of Fortnum & spenner, Steve smith + others bringing new tunes week by week...happy days, then came the re-born soulies who didn't give a rats ass to us that had stuck with & moved on with the scene, bugger us, lets get back to the good old days of flogged to death oldies....This is why we run a club playing underplayed tunes, we do what it says on the tin, NO OVERPLAYED 45s
  9. i'm on the road to health thanks Si. i had to rush off downstairs cos i was on in the R&B room, Steve Brown kindly gave me 2 x early spots cos of my health worries, we split @ half hr after i'd finished, have a great time in Southport
  10. Te he Si, look at the comment i had when i was playing "modern" shit upstairs at the Skeggy w/ender lol
  11. when people lecture me about Wigan etc. i usually reply when the tomangos, dena barnes, yvonne baker etc. were 1st played, did you shout "get this new shit off ???? get with it mate, without new sounds the scene would have died in 1969" Stick with it matey, the light will shine thro' to the dinosaurs lol
  12. Top revue.....a pleasure to read, theres still a shed load of records out there that want playing (or even finding if your lucky enough) Where are you djing next? Regards...Rob
  13. Hi Jimmy, don't worry, be happy.....i've been emptying floors for years, & still do, i get pats on the back for playing some "not flogged to death tunes". It'll be a sad day when the same 200 or so records are being played at... every venue, every weeek, every year.... Try to keep it fresh matey, you never know, after hearing something new or forgotten, they may even start tapping their toes lol
  14. I was bidding on it (to sit on my wall as a slab of soul history), i went up to $300 then got outbid...Doh!! the record itself was almost unplayable
  15. i only play original 45s upstairs at the crown (+ the odd acetate or two), & downstairs they always have a live band on, SO that night even the bloody jukebox is turned off....Now thats what i call real music lol
