  3. PM'd You on Tony Owens
  4. It is a truly awesome tune, but I've said it before, it was played out a long long time before 1979. More like 73/74 by Pep or Blue max.
  5. One other pint. Do you seriously think Soul Bowl, Global, Record Corner Etc. would have taken 18/24 months to get copies of what was the biggest record in the country at the time ?. These places were well plugged into what was being played as new releases and usually had copies within a couple of weeks. Even stuff considered "rare" now, like Foster & Stevens, Exportations and Innersection were readily available from those outlets.
  6. Yes I know you keep telling me this shit. So lets go through things chronologically. The record was released in December 1973 and i reckon it took Ian about 6 months to get one which would be about mid 1974, so 18/24 months after that would make it at least early 76 or mid 1976. I had packed the nighter scene in mid 1975 and I already had a pink copy by then from Record Corner, I remember showing it to Ian who was quite surprised to see it.
  7. What a load of b*llocks. The Carstairs is exactly like 807 Universal Mind, which is 1974, now would that be January 1974 or some time later. The format/font is also exactly the same as the Red label Richmond International release from 1973.
  8. The red label releases may well have something to do with Vigor records which used a solid red label for its early stuff. Vigor was in the same stable as Red Coach and De-lite, perhaps they just used the red blanks until they could get the pink label sorted out with the new distributor. Interestingly though all the red label releases are 1973 and AFTER 801 Carstairs. If the Carstairs did come out in December 1973 then they were very prolific release wise in that month.
  9. Actually Ian heard the record on the radio whilst in the U.S. no doubt played on a Demo copy. He did not get a copy when he was in the U.S. I believe he got a copy in the UK quite some time after the U.S. trip (John Anderson ?). I would also dispute that there was a gap of anywhere near 2 years between it being played at the Mecca and the pink copies becoming available, more like 2/3 months. As far as I remember the pink copies were sold through the normal outlets, that sold new U.S. releases, such as Record Corner and Global. There was also an issue with Red Coach changing distributors about the same time. The pink label is no clue either as Red Coach 801, the release before it, has the same design but 803,804,805 have the red label, then its back to pink for 807.
  10. How can the first issue of a record that was not issued before be a reissue ?. By your logic only demo copies of records can be originals and stock copies must all be reissues.
  11. It might be a good idea to find out what "in process" means. The buyer says he aint got it, the Royal Mail say they aint delivered it either.
  12. Oh Dear Oh Dear
  13. Not unless they got a British release, very few imports around at that time.
  14. This was known long before Wigan, may have even been played at the Wheel.
  15. Obviously you never hit the floor for hours after a hand full of Red & Browns. Personally I never had a beer towel just an ordinary towel in my bag if and when required.
  16. I suppose you will be telling us next that some eastern european does it now for £2.50
  17. No No and thrice No. Any film that was the definitive story of northern soul, could NOT be just about Wigan. The scene was there many years before Wigan and has continued til the present day. The definitive history would span nigh on 50 years. Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't the latest film mostly about Wigan anyway ?.
  18. Pm'd you. All in excellent shape unless specified - postage £2.50 to the U.K. (recorded), £3.50 to Europe, £4.50 to anywhere else, regardless of the size of package. (Your second and third record etc incurs NO postage charge!!!!!) Apologies in advance for the quality of the soundclips - I'm not very technically minded!!!!! If you have any reservations about the playing quality of any record, please get in touch and also don't forget that I offer a full money back guarantee (including postage) if not happy for ANY reason
  19. Interesting, I had 2 off a Japanese dealer who sells predominantly reggae 45's most of which are Jamaican labels/copies. Its also says on the Bettye Swanns something about Dynamic sounds. I have also bought Atlantic 45's Inc. Sam Dees in Jamaica when on holiday.
  20. Knowing Pete, he probably didn't mean to, but then again you never knew what Pete was gonna do next, plus there was also the Brian Leer factor.
  21. The only bit of swearing that didn,t ring true for me was the Dj bit. I don't remember any DJ at the time giving it that whether it was a Nighter, Dayer, Local Night or Youth Club. That bit just didn't ring true to me. In fact a DJ who gave out crap like that to the dance floor would probably have got a slap in my day. Even that most Maverick of all the Djs Alan Day wasn't doing that although the odd curse might have slipped through. The best one was Martyn Ellis announcing a record as "the next bloody big biggun", I kid you not. As for the drug bits I couldn't possible comment.
  22. Kung Fu has about as much to do with the scene as Muriel Day or Nosmo King, sweet F A.
  23. All sorted out now. I need his address to send a tune. Have PM'd him but no reply. Can someone E-mail or phone him and let him know to contact me. Cheers Kegsy
