  6. Yep, I'd agree with that In the end it's the "public" that decide what or what isn't a Northern Sound... Once sat through a set of so called R & B that had me wanting to slash me wrists... A good 'un is a good'un, it don't matter to me what sub genre has been invented this week if I like it I like it simples... F'instance I absolutely loathed "The Zoo" on first hearing, after 35 or more years it's started to grow on me . Tony
  7. Think you kinda missed the point there. Listening to a DJ who can't put a spot together OR use the mic, then you may as well listen to a comp. CD-Was how I read it. ATB Tony
  8. And, conversely, it would be nice for a few DJ's to go out when they're not "working". I often have a wry smile on the the Events page at the comments of " Best Venue in the Country"-" What a knowledgable Crowd" etc etc, and when you have a little peek, surprise surprise the commentor is doing a spot, And you know full well if they weren't they'd be nowhere near it. Tony
  9. Bluddy Hell, Read my mind-was just musing if it was a viable option (doubt it) but on the lines of OVO Vinyl Anything goes. But, who's gonna be honest enough ?? T
  10. Ah, right, got it. It means "we play Pressings and boots but not CD's", then ?? Tony
  11. Actually, you are both right.... OVO is not strictly limited to the "Upfront " scene, there are plenty of nights with promotors that care.. And yes, I see lots of nights listed as 100% vinyl- WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FFFS ?? I have said it before, if you want to run a "Top 100 Northern Soul Night" and you haven't got the records emploly the guys n girls that do... there's enough of 'em about. Tony
  12. Seem to remember a thread on here where the clubs stated whether they were OVO or not (100% Vinyl ) Perhaps a few could take a liitle blimp at that. Happily there's one on Friday not a million miles from me. ATB Tony
  13. Gawd love us.. It's no wonder the scene is F*cked. Once upon a time there was a bit of diversity, by which I mean clubs/ dj's/towns had their own sets of tunes Yes, the were massive tunes played everywhere-but Blackpool Mecca played different to Wigan played different to Yate played different to Cleethorpes and the smaller clubs in between.... And we wanted to hear them ALL. I've said before, when a sound was pressed, re-issued or whatever, it was dropped for something new. What have we got now ?? Well, with a few exceptions a 1001 nights all playing THE SAME TUNES on 100% Vinyl ( there's a vital word missing there though). All diluting a thin enough crowd as it is, cos why travel when all you want is on your doorstep ?? I have no problem with folk buying 'em for home use- but you just know that most are being bought as floorfillers for people who think they are top hole DJ's for filling said floor, given the same tools my 2 year old niece could do that .. But, hey it's OK so long as "they" are having a good time. Tony
  14. No, it doesn't................. My tuppence- Being bought by the Only Played on 100% vinyl brigade. T
  15. I have often wondered if the people that insist on wearing the "uniform" were ever actually there ?? T

    Bloody Nora, She gets everywhere...
  17. One for today- Great tune needs more plays You're Never Too Young-Leroy Britton-Sound One of them weird things I play now and again at Heywood Tony
  18. Don't think I've heard that before.. Very Very Nice Tony
  19. Really liking The Kelly Brothers at the moment specially Stop Your Crying Woman- Sims. For about a tenner doesn't get a lot better Tony
  20. With, or without, relish ??? T
  21. Who benefits from starting a night on the same night as an established venue ?? When you (they) decide on a date, do you check out what else is on the same night, within say a half hours drive, or do you just crash on relentless ??? No wonder Ste feels like calling it a do. Tony
  22. Actually, the thing was, once a "Big" record had been pressed it was dropped very quickly and replaced by the next "Big" thing. In a funny kinda way the evil pressers kept the scene moving forwards. Tony
  23. One of the first things I heard and still a firm favourite James Carr-Freedom Train.. Tony
  24. I think I'd like to see a few more.. Especially from those places that were packed to the rafters with all the DJ's playing blinding sets.. Tony
  25. We've been doing the Facebook thing for Heywood for the last 6 months or so-- Gives people who can be ars&d to look a flavour of what we like to play.. And being a bit of a luddite-I find it easier to link ther than here.. Tony
