  1. Ok, but what is a Substandard do ?? If somebody is genuinely trying to help a charity they're gonna want as many people through the door as possible and that surely means catering to the widest possible taste, which is going to be Motown, Club Classics, The Snake and all that--not that it would pique my interest, but then again playng the rarest, most exclusive music isn't going to appeal to many of the target audience is it. So long as the charity gains and the folk that attended enjoyed it can't see a problem. BUT- using a Charity banner to start another oldies night or one that fails to get any money to the charity is decidely Out Of Order
  2. Bit puzzled about the above, as You've got the big fella down for THIS Friday.

  6. Don't think many of us have- but might now listen to some. I'd love to find the alternative Velvelettes "These Things" on a 45
  7. Wigan generally gets all the flak for this type of stuff, but let's have it right, it's been at Every club in Every era. "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it--Oi'll give it Foive"
  8. Bloody Nora, in best PG tips voice "Oi, Ami. Avez vous Le Serpent??"
  9. Now, that must be a "rare" night......LOL
  10. The reason for the high price on the Yesteryear one is that it is the album version with the spoken intro that is currently in vogue, doesn't add a lot to it as a tune IMO, but there you have it. It's also on a MFP Supremes LP that cant be more than a fiver. Ooops, missed the bit about the demo having the spoken intro also, nonetheless so does the yesteryear and it's more desirable at the minute than the standard issue.
  11. You'll not be out much this year then ... :-)
  12. Yup, my youngest bougt one a year or two back...But you don't like my music sez I. I know, but it's retro....

  14. I concur, well I would wooden eye. Incidently, I am fast approaching the back end of my 50's, started(properly) in '72, had a break for the kids n that came back did the nostaglia thing for a coupla years, found out there was tons of stuff I'd missed and loved hearing, and still want to hear new stuff I don't know now, otherwise, What's the Point ????
  15. Once every blue moon, mainly due to the fact that I shouldn't do what I'd like to do when I go to one, bloody ticker-It's all Les Rushtons fault Think the last one was Burnley about 18 months ago, I think. Can't see the point of going to any out n out Oldies Allnighter meself though...
  16. As I said I can't see the clip. I'd assumed it was an old 'un-Nicolas Brothers/ Hellzapoppin' or the like... Copied from Discoers?? Nah, 'Tother way round more like.
  17. This would coincide with my thoughts that from each "big" club Wheel/Torch/Wigan, as one closed and the other filled the gap there was a subtle shift in the music--hard to pin down, but I know what i mean...
  18. Cannot see the clip, blocked at work-- But, without a doubt moves were borrowed and adapted from all sorts of sources.
  19. Who? John Vincent or Travis Wammack ?? One that I've not heard for Donkeys Years --Tracks To Your Mind-Sounds Of Lane....

  23. Well, yes and no. It's one I've had a while that I don't really play much.. I have no idea of what it's really worth, I do know it's fairly elusive, so I was looking for informed opinion of value, in case I wanted to flog it.
  24. Well, I could be tempted. Hence the question
  25. Just a quick query. What would be the going rate for this nowadays . thanks
