  1. Surely not Grant Yours Truly Ivor Nalibi
  2. Actually Carms, there was something along a similar line round here, well Oldham way to be precise.. Back room of a boozer, decks set up, turn up stick yer name on a list to play a few for twenty minutes or so, discuss, dance swap buy sell have a beer or two.....quite enjoyable... Unfortunately fell apart.
  3. To me, others may disagree, he was The Voice of Motown, instantly recognisable. Some of my Favourites Where Did You Go Do What You Gotta Do Reach Out, I'll Be There ( if this was rare--how much ??) Standing In The Shadows Something About You. That'll do for a start.
  4. Oh , I see, not the greatest Chris Farlowe fan so was unaware.
  5. Not sure I understand. I would have won the bet though..
  6. If I was a betting man, I'd go for "Out Of Time " but you never know,
  7. Who cares, really?? From my angle I have always said that you don't get into it..IT gets into you.. I didn't go looking for a Cool, Underground Scene to belong to, after hearing all the classic (well a lot) motown, stax etc. at the youth clubs and having to suffer interminable shite in any given "disco" in between hearing the odd Soul tune, saw adverts in Blues and Soul for clubs saying they played exclusively Soul. Okey dokey, we'll give that a go....... walked in the first night..... complete Damascus moment. So, grabbed by the throat in 1972 and never looked back.. Yes, had a few years away marriage and kids and all that, but the MUSIC never leaves you, dipped the toe back in and heard stuff I hadn't heard before..brilliant.. I still go out , in the hope of hearing something I don't know. If I can come away from a night thinking Wow, gotta get me one of them, then I've had a good night. I understand that I am probably in the minority.
  8. Indeed there are... until they are delivered to the buyers...
  9. Green and Pleasant Land.......My A*re You Ok Bud ??
  10. oh, and Mitty Collier-My Party
  11. Hi Pete, I was injecting a little irony. The scene today, such as it is, is far more open than it was when I first started. It could be a very scarey and intimidating place to be, until you had proved yourself.
  12. Actually, perhaps the time has arrived for us to return to ethics and morals of the early '70s scene. A time when any newcomer or unknown face turned up they were welcomed with the 1000 yard stare, and were lucky to go home in the clothes they stood up in....
  13. I concur.. We are all guilty of judging the book by it's cover, and I've seen the odd time when some of the uniformed faithful arrive and thinking "Whoops, they're not going to enjoy this" and being pleasantly surprised.... I have also seen the opposite...play summat we know..wade in the water ..anything......
  14. I am sure that many would be welcome at the "rarer" nights, but, would they be prepared to accept something different from their imprinted soundtrack.??
  15. I am very very sorry, but I can't resist..... Ahem, I see they have Loo Rolls on there
  16. Hi , got that and only just noticed the Tony Lamarr thing now you pointed it out... D'oh..
  17. Gee Zuss, How many pages would we be up to if it had been on a full hour
  18. Thought that the US issues were only the live version.
  19. The Bible ??? Bugger, I thought it was Freddie Scott Actually the only thing getting my goat is the assumption that all soul nights are of a poor standard and that all Allniighters are brilliant, cos they're not and they're not...
  20. Anybody read Logan's Run ??
  21. The US don't have exclusive rights to flavour of the month tossers or badly written/ researched scripts. Paul O'Grady, anyone? or my own personal "fave" Stuart Maconie
  22. Yes, That was a good programme, probably being torn to shreds on Boxing Forums as we speak
  23. And its a good question Phil, that's been around since "This England" Thing is you don't get into it. IT gets into you... I have said before that I walked into The Pendulum as a young soul fan ( from hearing Motown and Club soul) and was completely blown apart by what I was hearing.. next mission.. hear more
