  1. Oh yes, this is my kind of topic. Not all of us are lottery winners or big end earners, so,unless we sell the missus ,are never gonna get near the real rare stuff .Anyway most are around on one cd or another so if you must have em better to get 20 or so on't cd then pay £10-15 for a pressing IMO. Yes it is very difficult to get a decent collection these days, which is why threads like this help us to Keep The Faith(PAT. Pending) by spreading the word on good tunes that still can be found on original label, that should also be played out on Quality grounds, rather than price tags. Keep up the good work. Cheers Tony
  2. Picked up a nice one a coupla weeks back, Your Love Keeps Drawing Me Closer by Johnson Hawkins Tatum & Durr. Mate of mine reckons its most of if not all of The Chandlers. Anyone confirm?? Cheers Tony
  3. I know there's an "AJP" label to use ones full and correct title(Antony James P...), but if there's one called" Mad Tony from Manchester" ,I'l buy the bugger Cheers Tony
  4. You could always play my favourite wedding tune. Kung Fu Fighting--goes down a storm in Salford. I'll get me shuriken.... Tonyp
  5. Ooh Bit Harsh. As Jimmy said in BBC2's Dancing In The Streets David never hit Tammi with no hammer,he just slapped her upside the head. So that's Ok then?????? Tony
  6. Would that be when they appeared with The Miracles and Billy Griffin had just replaced Smokey?? If so ,I was at that one, went to Wigan after with a head full of magic and a copy of the program. Had to put up with Martyn Ellis taking every chance to tell me that the cover was a Masterpiece. "That covers a Masterpiece Tony." "Yes Martyn, I know." "That covers a Masterpiece Tony" "Yes Martyn ,I know" "That covers a Masterpiece Tony" "Yes Martyn,P*SS OFF" Oh well that was Martyn Cheers Tony
  7. Ooops I mean who's?? I'm biased IMO The Temptations are/were the greatest vocal group EVER! So who's your favourite?? Right from the Golden Years. Obvious choices David Ruffin Eddie Kendricks Paul Williams, surely one of the most underated, underused talents, listening to Last One Out is Brokenhearted... just slays me. Dennis Edwards Otis Williams Ali Ollie Woodson Richard Street The list like the membership goes on and on. My favourite is good old dependable Melvin Franklin, just love that big booming Bass underpinning all the soaring vocalising and harmonizing.. fantastic. So lets hear folks for your top choice. Power..boom boom Power..boom boom boom Power..boom boom Love It Tony

I know that ultimately any record is only worth how much you are prepared to pay,but how do dealers arrive at the values?? If the once" one copy only" Frank Wilson is worth 15 grand does that mean that a £15 sound has 1000 known copies or what?? Tonyp

Yes Kumano--both me and Smila give it an airing at Live It Up! along with other 70s & 80s stuff. Much better sound than the likes of that well known misprint 'Farty Lime Can' Tony

Sorry I'm late in replying but I can't log in from home for some reason. Anyway Walsden in Lancashire? Well it's part of Todmorden which is on the Lancashire Yorkshire border and subject to arguments over the years which county it is in. Lancashire say it should be in Yorkshire, Yorkshire aren't so sure.....oh dear. Really though in between Rochdale and Huddersfield up here in the Frozen North. Cheers Tony

Now this is not a dig at those of us with perfect complections. Do you just love a constant diet of well known overplayed oldies and Wigans Greatest Hits? If your answer is yes- then fair play- to each his(her) own. If however you are a little fed up with the same old same old and believe you have got better sounds that deserve an airing and fancy doing a short spot (say 1/2 hour - 10 tunes or so) either make yourself known to us at Live It Up! in Walsden- last Friday every month or email me tony.porr@poff1.fsnet.co.uk Being that we're skint you wont be getting any dosh, but then neither are we (yet) Egalatarianism is for every body. Cheers Tonyp
  22. Speaking of Contempo Soul Packs a friend of mine got The Del Larks Job Opening in one just as Mr Levine was claiming the only known copy. Tonyp

First records heard at a real soul club would have been Exus Trek-Sweet Sherry-Thumb A Ride-Only your love can save me, all on my first time at the Pendulum. I can't remember what I heard at my first All Nighter as I had a lot of stuuf going through my head at the time :-o Tony
  25. This may not be the question you thought it was, however what I am asking is are Rip Snorting All Guns Blazing movers like say Sandi Sheldon,Theresa Lindsey and their ilk still preferable to the slower things,Bobby Kline,Timi Yuro etc. I know which I can still move to, but there are a few down tempo things that I'd like to play out just wondering what the reaction may be. Cheers Tony
