  7. Nev i dont think you are talking about the same record on Wand as everyone else i.e the Ivorys
  8. Porgy and the Monarchjs 'Hey Girl' on Musicor i guess sort of qualifies - even though it wasn't supposed to be on the other side of the reissue of 'my heart cries for you'
  9. but it's a one off acetate owned by rob thomas/andy rix - how come - and i was surprised to hear it last year played by not one of these two

  11. i paid £5 about twenty years ago, and on my success rate of price increase over purchase cost; i would say that it's probably worth about 50p now

  13. totaly with you on that pete. it's welll...i agree
  14. for once, i agree Ian to answer the first question - 'no' it would not be 'unbearable' beacuse most of us would not know what northern soul was/is. most of us are born into it from a young hatchling whether youth club/mod/mate induced/etc; without that we all would be none the wiser, so we would not even know about NS. people here are posting saying where the scene would be big - and they are right sweden/italy etc the NS is vibrant, but it wouldnt be the same scene without the UK scene and if it was, their version of Soul Fonte would be saying right now..."what if this scene was centered outside of Italy etc etc" and someone would reply "there's a following in the UK...." etc, etc daft question to start with imo
  15. easy £10k; £15k would not surprise me...imo
  16. i will alawys associate the Royal Esquires with Mick Smith - he was playing it before it was found... and paid for it too
  17. I went to see Russ today; well i went yesterday too but it seems everyone in Portsmouth was visiting the hospital at the same time and after queuing 15 minutes i couldnt park (some designers idea to take half the car park away and to build a new one after everything else ) as it happens it was a blessing...today i got a lift there, incase i encountered the same problem, and turned up just as Jenny was leaving, so it was nice to say hello to Jen, and Russ was up out of bed and unplugged from the numerous wires and tubes etc that he has had to endure for ten odd days... to cut it short; Russ is looking (and sounding) good; very pasty, but far better than i was expecting, and he is feeling good too and hopefully will be back home in the next day or two. Tonite he has ordered some pizza for dinner so that he can have a nite in watching TV and eating pizza LOL. As Steve says, Russ has been through a very, very bad time and a big ordeal the past ten days, when he gets home i think he may well be wiped out for quite a few weeks, if not more. it was good to see him in good spirits though and i think if it wasn't for me getting picked up again i would still be there listening to his stories Russ thanks everyone for their wishes, which he will do in person when he feels up to going online again.
  18. they do excellent food at QA, i shall go visit him at feeding times
  19. That is true Chris...and also that if there's 100 people in and only 10 dancing, it doesn't mean that the other 90 aren't enjoying the music
  20. i been after a red text for literally years - it aint easy. blue i'd have though £25 to £30-- and i would pay double for the red text - never heard of a black text (Neil, get your eyes checked! lol) or yellow - and lost nite dont count imo
  21. Hi Gareth You were there when i first heard this; Ben somehow managed to get it out from under our noses and bought it! It was at the Rugby soul Alldayer we went to... with Ben and Jason; i was raving over 'GiGi' and Ben 'Give it Up'; and you telling me it was the same guy as the Ascots; was a great day/nite - that must have been 3 and a half years ago! It took me a year and a half to get one, and then not the greatest copy! - one of those records that is not supposed to be 'rare' but try and get hold of one! A great day Gareth!!
  22. I prefer Gi Gi
  23. no, but had others with paint on, gold on dunhill i think. they put it on for re-sale reasons instead of drilling a bb hole. could be the same for the jb's
