  1. if the DJ was my best friend then i would tell him. but i have respect for any one who gets up there and DJs and if i don't like something then that is down to my personal taste and i dont want to go on a public forum and diss a couple of records i don't like - when most of the people on here (SS) wont have heard the records, or more importantly, the rest of the (good) set and then make an opinion on the DJ and the set just because i don't like a couple of the records...
  2. no, i won't say who it was on here Steve, i will tell you when i see you next... And yes lots of superb unreleased stuff...
  3. yes; and this is not particularly that good at all. i was at a niter recently when some DJ played 2 unreleased acetates, claiming they were the dogs and they were F**king awful. no need for it IMO.
  4. i think it depends where you go surely? i have heard the Mello Souls more than those listed here (no not tired of it). and some people want to hear the same stuff - i was in a 'rare' room at a niter recently went downstairs to the 'big' room where 'Jeanette' was just finishing and loads of people clapped - it that sort of encouragment that needs stamping out!! I agree on Ruby Andrews - a great soul record that for me i NEVER EVER want to hear again; the NS scene has 'killed' it.

PML; got to be the funniest post on here for ages...!!
  8. now see...when you say Don Gardner...we all get a bit excited oh well lol
  9. DIFFERENT BAND; THE MAJESTICS ON LINDA INCLUDED MEMBERS DAVID AND RUBEN AND ART ROBLES - THEY WERE RELATED BROTHERS/COUSINS
  10. try Anglo; sure they had an L Allen on this weeks list.
  11. Funnily i was saying (venting more-like) this very same thing on the drive up to Gloucester (didn't notice it myself at Goloucester but i spent all nite in room 2 apart from the last half hour DJing in main room) I put this down to several factors: 1) they're talking bollox; 2) they do think that they've heard it all and only want to hear their own new tunes (and once finished DJing leave); 3) it's just us getting upset over nothing and we ought get a grip; AND 4) the record sellers are usually somewhere else away from smaller, darker 'rare' room- and these people and the people who hang round records for sale are the people who want to hear new tunes, but they can't because due to no fault of their own they are elsewhere and can't leave their records (sometimes livelyhood). (this made a nice change at Gloucester where the reccord sellers were in the 2nd room.)
  12. David, I'd have thought £60 - £75. I have a WD, i think the issue may be harder.

couldn't be arsed to read all the choices. sorry but it's all too much for me that sounds quite rude in the morning - wasn't meant to be, me eyes just can't take in all trhat small bunched up text (i'll vote Butch, if he's listed)
  14. sorry;l i have read this about 5+ times now and i can't understand it. are you saying you wont go to allniter cos you don't get any seventies or funk?? or are you saying that you dont go to allniters cos there is seventies and funk?? you're post isa unclear - though i must admit more northern funk at the 100 Club would be good. and for me there is a definite divide between northern and rare soul. two different scenes running side by side. that'll never change and Rob Messr gets the northern angle all the time (at northern do's) IMO
  15. i was thinking that too. though i think 2 of them for sale were the same one(?) theres an interview wih Cagel on youtube; says it was a local hit on the beach scene so may have been a few pressed up, though does seem to be very rare still.
  16. i don't call it co-incidence that i have gone years not hearing 'Please Don't Go' and now i've heard it the last few time i've been out (as well as '..Dues') Not a bad thing at all, just an observation
  17. the original version was by someone called 'Loudermilk'(the guy that wrote it) in 1960
