  2. ...and you made 8x Julian
  3. a unique voice; very sad RIP
  4. If you found out the details by your own effortsl; then it is down to you what to do with that info and tell who you want - cover-ups are there to be un-covered at some point. If you were told by the DJ's or on the QT by others; then keep it under your hat and not tell any one. IF it were me; I would keep quiet and plod on trying to find one (i would tell you though Pete) All IMO of course
  5. Exactly, Tony
  6. I go t the impression 'not' at the time. as you say JM is the one to know...
  7. it wasn't auction - at the time there was a link to a Manshis (old) website page with the record listed (no price)
  8. i was thinking how un-rare it looked - if you know what i mean...
  9. i'd be suprised it you haven't heard both side Pete!
  10. that was prob one of the frist copies played over here Pete (yes - a Great nite!!)
  11. YOU WERE THE FIRST PERSON I HEARD PLAY THIS PETE, IN BOURNEMOUTH I MANAGED TO GET ONE THE NEXT MONTH. WAS MORE THAN THAT PRICE THEN, I'M SURE
  12. I'd have thought more than £2k - one of the best ever double sider cover-ups imo :-)
  13. This is short; but very sweet; an antithesis to those soul singers/groups/producers that, seemingly, we hear daily are falling by the wayside. A couple of days ago I got an email from Steve Jarrell (S&P vocals and Sax). A happy ending to the story - or maybe the beginning of another... ____________________________ Hi Dave, Tony Nardi, Ed Mobley and I got together this past weekend in Hot Springs, Arkansas for 3 nights. It was the first time the 3 of us have been on stage together in 42 years. It was magic! Just like riding a bike. I got goosebumps when we performed "Man Of My Word" and "Linda". I thought you might like a couple of photos. Kindest regards, Steve Jarrell _____________________________ Steve's photos were postage size to say the least so Karla Nardi was kind enough to email me some 'big' photos of the reunion...
  14. Matt...if they aren't on the scene they wouldn't know if it was new or not; they wouldn't know a Tommy & The Derbys from a Mel Britt If they were genuinely interested then i personally would play what i would want to hear.
  15. i heard them; they rubbish
  16. Just seen this...You are quite right, there was no need and i apologise.
  17. Kev; found this on the royal jesters - all 1969-ish Royal Jesters - Harlem, Jox, Cobra, Clown, Optimum, GCP, - '59 - '70 Lanier - founders Oscar Lawson, Henry Hernandez, Musicians - w/ trumpet Victor Alvarado Cut 2 lps - "We go Together" Jester '65 & Chevere Optimum '69 First single "My angel of Love" Harlem w/ Charlie & Jive Start w/ 65 - leap to '69 - from Doo Wop to the Brown Sound Optimum recordings have a very distinct deep, Soulful sound. Very earthy and smoky vocals combined with gritty drumming and selective covers - very Chicano sound of the lates '60's and early '70s. very, very distinct from Motown. Set 2: Royal Jesters "My Love, My Love" Jester - '65 Royal Jesters "I want to take you Higher" - Optimum - '69 Lp cut Royal Jesters "Manning Avenue" Optimum - '70 Royal Jesters "Tried & Convicted" Optimum - '69 - Lp cut Royal Jesters "Here I go Again" Optimum - '69 - Lp cut
  18. year is 1969; if that helps - don't know the actual date
  19. good price too!
  20. rock candy was done off the same plates as the contemplations - both the same run outs
  21. it was me that said that...and yes In My Opinion i do not want to hear Ruby Andrews - it is a fantastic soul record that 'our' northern soul scene has ruined by over playing... No - it is not about floor fillers to me - it is about hearing different; new sounds - why go out every week to hear the same thing?? what i "think" I want you to hear bears no resemblance to what i envisage you want to hear so i wont even bother - in fact, if i am DJing in the same venue that you may want to go to - do yourself a favour and dont bother coming in while i am on.
  22. yep and maybe abit more - seen people asking £600
  23. i would say the only difference is format i.e. carvers now can be made onto vinyl as well as metal acetates...other than they're not original - unless cut from a master tape or CD only release of course
  24. if it is a fresh new sound then i would - if it is something that is played every week e.g. Ruby Andrews then no. but then again i dont think RA should be played at any time now. and it this is a soul nite not a niter then 3 times is excessive let alone 2.
