  1. As ever Baz right on the money mate. All of the stuff you've mentioned as well as Dramatics ' In the rain' still knocks me out when i hear it. Eddie Kendricks ' Each day i cry little' Edwin Starr ' I'll never forget you' on granite and as you say ' I have faith in you' as the late Pete Lawson used to say 'imagine you'd heard this for the first time. Wilson Pickett - toe hold, what a record that is and his version of Thomas Bailey'I wish i was back' edges it for me too.
  2. Amen to that Sean, rarity over quality has always been one of shortcomings of the scene I'm afraid. If anyone wants to hear the real deal come along to Seans night 'Just soul' at the end of March.
  3. I love Ralfi Pagan Kev, different class. Agree with Sean it's a mediocre version at best.
  4. I've got the top one and love the 'three strikes on me' track. Not sure which came first though
  5. Wow, that's a tough one Steve. I got mine about 25 years ago and although I haven't been actively looking for another one I haven't seen it on any lists since.
  6. Nice one Pete, I'll give that a go
  7. Really nice selection as usual, might see you down Majestic soul tomorrow
  8. Sounds brilliant Rob and rightly so that everyone should turn out for someone who was so important to the landscape of Memphis music and soul music in general. He will be sadly missed.
  9. They look really bad to BOOT

That could be only one person in the leopard skin trimmed jump suit ( apart from Dave Thorley) Eddie Parker great night, but shaded on the night by Lorraine chandler if I remember correctly !
  11. Eli was tipped on here by Sean Hampsey and a few others a good while back and I went to see him in Camden in some small venues a year or two ago and had a chat with him. He's a really nice bloke and definitely into his music. He is a big Kip anderson fan and does a very good version of Roger Hatcher and later on covered by Clarence Carter 'Caught making love'
  12. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUrkrjlOY-o&feature=related I would loved to have heard this at Obama's inauguration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JljLSefvsI One of his finest moments
  13. Totally agree mate, the very essence of soul music, as already mentioned a terrible week for music with Willie Mitchell, Sandra Wright and Earl Gaines recently departed. Thankfully we have their wonderful legacy to remind us of all the joy they've brought us
  14. Great call Ady, both of the live lps are great. The live version of ' Is it over' from the first one is awesome! I was lucky enough to see him at a blues festival in Belgium just before he came over with the Waylo tour. He was brilliant, just a really hard working singer at the top of his game with a top notch band
  15. totally agree mate, Candi is one of my favourites and Otis clay too. I had the good fortune to see J Blackfoot recently and he still has it. Don't forget that rick Hall would get Candi to sing her Fame stuff over and over again to get that hoarse, fragile quality to her voice that Sean mentioned.
  16. My favourite track as well mate, tends to get overshadowed by all the other wonderful tracks
  17. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L70RLy_VmNk&feature=related Always makes me smile as I try in vain to do the dance
  18. Agree with Eddie and Drew, a masterpiece of an lp. I was working at HMV when it came out and went for an interview with demon records pretty much on the strength of this album and the fact they owned the Hi label back catalogue. It's been a bad time lately with Willie Mitchell as well I'll be spinning a few at home tonight
  19. I love all this type of stuff' Ace of spades' '8 men 4 women' great choice mate
  20. Sorry I forgot this classic too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvNCnsuewRc
  21. Darryl Hurdle and Tony class for me
  22. I thought this would be a fitting tribute to the great man
  23. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-TPk3OPEOc&feature=fvw always loved this one
