I was woken up this morning at 0500 hrs by 5 live playing Al Capone ,One Step Beyond and Carolina by the Folks Brothers and the very sad news that Prince Buster had passed away at the age of 78.
Now i defy anyone to stay still if they hear the infectious blue beat ska rhythms,it was the sound of my youth along with Soul Music of course,it brought the memories just flooding back and took me straight to 1966 and sounds like Guns of Navarone ,Pheonix City,Train to Skaville. Train tour to Rainbow City and Rudy A message to you(1967 i think).
One of the first Black Atlantic singles i bought was Jamaican Ska ,Such memories and a privilege to have grown up in this period and Prince Buster was an icon of my time.
Rest in Peace and thank you
