  1. I agree that there are loads of quality 80`s tunes not yet mentioned (some great lists posted though). The low budget synth records for the most part (with some notable exceptions) do sour the decade somewhat but shouldn`t hide the vast quantity of top quality tunes that were released during this decade (just waiting for the Soul in the 90`s thread now !! ) btw i also agree that that are plenty of copies of Sir Prize sitting in collections over here, I know of at least 3 (including myself) Mark H
  2. A top quality set which more than holds it`s own alongside his first LP on Waylo. If you liked that LP then i suggest you don`t miss this one Mark Houghton

  5. Kev, Johnny Thompson who sang "Given up on love" lives in Orlando .He has actually released a couple of cd`s since the early 2000s with some covers of Northern (usually Chicago tracks where he born and brought up) tracks on them. All with a full live band backing him. Hoping to get to Orlando myself next year (time off work/money permitting) . Mark Houghton
  6. We`re on a Thursday Night (currently the 3rd Thurs of each month, but hoping from July to return to the 4th which we had to begin with) Next date Thurs 20th May Mark H
  7. I think most of us automatically assumed that when we heard releases from someone with the same name it`s the same person. I can remember being in a basement many years back ,somewhere in the USA and getting excited upon finding an unknown Phil Perry 45. Then the disappointment of hearing a country and western singer !! With solo artists it`s quite easy in most cases to tell . Examples being George Jackson and Rosie/Rosey Grier. It gets more difficult with groups, but thanks to available information we now know that there were more than one Topics, Blue Magic, Sly Slick and (the ) Wicked ,to name just a few. I`m sure that there are still one or two surprises awaiting us as well Mark H
  8. and also look out for "How Much I Feel" on a 7 as well (also released on a UK 12 on Billy Boy with "Oh Darlin` on the other side) Mark H
  9. Unfortunately you`ll find something else !!
  10. Just listened to the show and the Spencer Wiggins track is without doubt Premier League Soul (anyone who likes Roscoe Robinson`s "Don`t pretend" and George Jackson`s "My Desires..." will love this track ) BTW Steve, the Edwin Starr track you played also came out on a 12 on A.S.K Records Mark H
  11. It will be good to see you down there mate, especially as i was supposed to be in Daytona Beach but am stuck here (just hoping that we`re alright to take off on friday now). hearing these newly discovered tracks will at least be some consolation Mark H
  12. I`m pretty sure that Steve Plumb used to have copies of this in his "legendary" £1 box at Soul Essence Mark H
  13. Really nice upbeat feel good record Mark H
  14. This got quite a few plays in London at "A New Chapter" . The person that put me on to this (and who might have some info) was Martin Adams from the South Coast Mark H
  15. Loads of fantastic example of crossover soul so far. may i add - Bob Relf -Girl, you`re my kind of wonderful Bobby taylor - Don`t be afraid Originals - I`m someone who cares Barbara Brown/Carl Sims - Pity a fool Shades of Brown - How could you love him Patti Stokes - Is it true Elvin Spencer - Lift this Hurt Charles Brimmer - This feeling is in my heart I could go on on and on .......... but my number crossover record (at this particular moment anyway !) Roscoe Robinson - Don`t Pretend (Fame) Mark H
  16. It must a while . We both had our own teeth Mark
  17. Best of luck with the record mate. I can remember all those years back at Southport you recommending the cd to me as a new release when working on the Soul Bowl stall. Good to see "Loving You" finally have it`s day. Mark Houghton
  18. Been browsing this post for the last couple of days but until today hadn`t had a chance to go through my cds. But yes i`ve found it ! It`s Donnie Ray "Come Back" off the "Are You Ready For Me" cd on Bama Records. What a cracking tune (can`t believe i forgot about this) Mark Houghton
  19. As Girf sais very tough. Been after myself for over 10 years now. Mark Houghton
  20. So many quality tracks in the last couple of years that i`ve lost count (i`ve lost count how many quality tracks have came out this year !). A few good tracks mentioned (although some were 2 or more years old) but it`s really just the tip of the iceberg. I`ve said it before and i`ll say it again this is a golden age for new/recent independent soul music (probably the best since the mid eighties) but the lack of gigs featuring the music means that most people are unaware of it . Even on the radio how many people listen to Mick O Donnell`s Soul Discovery show which plays this type of music almost exclusively or radio shows by Mark Randle or Steve Jackson (among others) who also feature plenty of new independents. Rather than me naming tracks just go to www.209radio.co.uk and click on the forum and look under the Soul Discovery posts for loads of playlists going back for nearly 3 years. this will certainly give you a taster of what`s out there. Mark Houghton
  21. Thanks for that Swifty (saves me looking for it !) Hi Russ, hope you are well mate. Be good to meet up with you later in the year. Mark H
  22. Another great show with both Mick and Steve playing an awesome selection of Modern Soul sounds (new and old stuff) that need to be heard Mark Houghton
  23. There`s also a later (80`s version) which came out on both a 45 and an LP but im pretty certain it wasn`t on Sounds South (i`ll have to find the LP and look). A nice update but not quite as good as the original version (imho). Mark Houghton
  24. Hi Guys, I was planning to add a few tracks to Drew`s thread (my first attempt at this). Whilst i`ve managed to get the tracks on Refosoul i cannot create a playlist as each time i try a "fatal error" keeps occuring. Cheers Mark
