A T Toombs -" Veteran Of Love" Soul Junction Records
MarkH replied to Tfk's topic in All About the SOUL
With so much Soul music both at gigs and on the radio either dominated by eras long gone such as the 60`s and 70`s or if "Modern" recorded in a style far removed (for many people too far removed) from the roots of the music it is refreshing to hear releases such as this which find a nice balance to both the past and present. New soul music is still being made and is still being released and thanks to labels like Soul Junction and artists like AT Toombs we are being given the opportunity to enjoy it. Mark H -

it`s difficult to add to what`s already been said about this excellent double header but one thing i do like about it is that i was first wowed by the catchier "Hooked on you" a very good throwback dancer but over the last few weeks it is the "You and Me" side which has really grown on me . A great example of 21st Century Soul Music. Mark H

Elbowed -Out ....2 X Unissued Upbeat 70S Tracks For Summer 2013
MarkH replied to Tfk's topic in All About the SOUL
One of my favourite releases so far on the label. 2 quality dancers with "Taking a Step" just edging it for me. Kept the floor busy at the last Majestic Soul and created some interest among the collectors as well. Mark H -
For me it`s simple. Is it good ? to my ears it`s a big yes. I could not care less about the intention of the artist/ label/producer behind it. Keep the quality 45`s coming ! Mark H

Articles: David Bursey: A Soul Journeyman.
MarkH replied to Louise's topic in Front Page News & Articles
What an interesting article. It`s amazing how several 45s i have or know about were linked in such a way. The Fairplay 45 is an excellent dancer which received a good reaction and a fair bit of interest when i spun it at our last Majestic Soul.. It`s the type of 80`s dancer which is quite in vogue at present and i can see it doing well and to be fair it is a very good record and will deserve to do so. -
Jesse James + unissued cuts + Soul Junction + Vinyl = Absolute Winner Agree with all the comments posted . Essential LP for Soul Fans Mark H

Ivy Jo Hunter - New 45 Out On Soul Junction Records.
MarkH commented on Tfk's article in News Archives
Been giving both sides a spin down South. The midtempo dancer "See You Around" will without doubt be a popular sound at Across The Board and Real Soul gigs throughout the summer including my own Majestic Soul night , and i`m certain it will get a lot of airtime at the upcoming Monumental Soul Weekender alongside tracks like the recent Lee Fields 45. It`s one of those early 80`s recordings which retain that "70`s Soul" feel and i thoroughly recommend it for anybody who likes those type of sounds. The flip side "Yea Yea Yea" is much slower and a beautiful sweet soul ballad . For me this 45 is as good as anything the label has put out so far . Mark H -
Great to see quality Soul releases like this still being made well into the new millenium. "Wont Somebody" will without doubt make a big impact at some of the upcoming weekenders as well as Modern venues throughout the country. I have to say that the flip "The Answers No" with it`s 80`s groove has grown on me considerably since the first play and now shares equal turntable time with "Wont Somebody" . For lovers of new and recent Soul Music this comes recommended. 2 quality sides , and on a 45 !! Mark H

Just thought i would let everyone know that the latest 45 from Soul Junction is to be released on the 9th January. 2 quality ballads featuring the outstanding voice of Harvey Scales. One side is the Womack influenced "Giving U What U Want" which featured on the 1998 LP/CD "Home of the Blues" The other side is a previously unissued track "I`ve been a fool (to fool around)" which i believe was recorded in the mid/late 80`s.as it fit`s in so well with those big voiced Independent releases which were so popular around that time. Thanks to the Soul junction crew for bringing tracks like these to our attention (and on a 45 as well !!) Mark Houghton

Another top notch release from Soul Junction. My favourite tracks being My Girl, I Need Your Kisses, and Rain Rain Go Away. For lovers of Quality Soul with a contemporary edge the whole LP comes highly recommended Mark Houghton

Cd only (or download). It`s well worth picking up as the title track is also a great mid-tempo outing , plus there`s some quality old school ballads including the sublime "Playing on the strings of your heart" which i can still remember turning a few heads when i spun it in the Soul Essence downbeat lounge about 7/8 years ago Mark Houghton
