Derek stopped hairdressing around 1980 I think, last heard of in Denby Dale selling insurance! Spot on about the long days spent in Dereks shop-Character Hairdressing by Derek 'Tamala' Barnett..!! See Mick Eastwood all the time, I have ventured to the Wheel and other various Soul clubs over the last few years with him..not really all-nighters as such. He was at Kenny Colemans 60'th with Denis a few month back. Denis has been living in Cornwall, but back in Apperly Bridge now. Rick Vaughan last heard of in Thailand apparently. Not a surprise really ! Rob Lamoigne is now a millionaire in California, Mick went out to see him a few years back . I did exchange emails with Pete Brent a while back in an attempt to get hold of some rare pics of the Spinning Disc but not heard much since..he was planning a book but dont know where he got with it. If you have any old pics from those days would love to see them. Hernies was a great short-lived club IMO could have been a legendary all-nighter if it had survived. I was the coffee bar person, making the worst coffee in the world, but what a job..loved it..were you there the night it was raided ? Pete

wow, I dont remember the Mojo all-nighter in Leeds!..I was an older looking fourteen year old managing to get into the BeeGee, Keyhole club and various other Leeds Mod related clubs & coffee bars, but cant remember that one! Malc, do you know Bernard Fernnell , Derek Barnett, Rick Vaughan and Colin Vernon then? What about Mick Eastwood and Denis Billingham who opened Hernies in Harehills(the old Hernandos).

I was talking more about the lack of soul..ie pop, rather than the colour of the singers skin to honest..I'd put both Fame & Stevie Winwood up among the soul singers rather than in with the pop singers..its just that they had 'pop' hits ..having a hit single in the pop charts doesnt stop you being a 'soul' singer..

It was a natural progression also there was a dropping off of people too , compensated by the addition of new blood.. I went from Wheel to Wigan via the Metro, Hernies, The Torch, Catacombs and the Central...other mates who attended dropped off after the Torch, others joined...so yes the Casino stopped some attending but not all. I always maintain the best clubs for atmosphere were dirty little cellars downstairs..So would prefer that type of club..Wheel,Central,Metro,.. then came the Torch and Casino to fuck that theory up..they were dirty, big clubs upstairs.!! but still great atmospheres.. . To be perfectly honest most old Wheelies still around that I knew were by that time getting so far off their heads, fuck knows what was getting played. There was some pop played everywhere.even the Wheel! Round Robin-Kick That Little Foot and Eagle-Kickin It Back To You are just two that spring to mind..Paul Mauriat and PJ Proby at the Torch..Enchanted Forest courtesy of Tony Banks at the Central..so Wigan didnt have the monopoly on 'pop' tunes.. just more of them..I still believe a lot of my favourite Csaino tunes, I actually heard first at VaVa..so that tells a story.

yes well done..444 label. sam nesbitt-Black Mother Goose. not aware of any other planned release so that would be worth finding out..The label design was almost identical to Black Magic ! only in the colour scheme of the Right On label..I actually had a promo label , given to me by Dave Godin. until I loaned it to someone at the Central all-nighter to get a badge design done and never saw him or the label again! red & browns did it for me too.
