  11. Dont want to turn this into another Soash/Metro type thread..just that is how it was mate sorry.I used to finish work friday teatime and go straight to the club, have my tea there and that was it , out for the weekend... I remember Jeff King selling his stuff in the coffee bar..I put on Leon Haywood and Denis ranting cos people were dancing down in the coffee bar and not upstairs ..maybe Swish was there, he def went to Hernies but didnt work the coffee bar, to my knowledge anyway..I'll ask him. Thinking about it, he could possibly have put on a few records while I was serving customers maybe. Also recall Flask Atkinson turning up after his 'expose' in the local paper about the 'Soul Sect!' coming to Leeds..poor Flash he thought he was giving us publicity..he was!! Denis & Easty nearly killed him..sadly he did that himself later. I recall Ian Levine being there and asking if he could dj..Cant recall if he did though..Julian Bentley and Denis did most of it..I have a newspaper cutting from Yorkshire Evening Post ,that I will put on here when I get my scanner working..it has an interview with Phil Holt and I think Rob Slater..reporters were in the club the week after Flash's contribution..
  12. Nope you are wrong there mate! I was the coffee culprit..I'm ashamed to say. Swish hung around there but usually me..Ask Easty , he and Denis Billingham ran the club, gave me the job. No bouncers just a locked wooden door with a peep hole..if you weren't wanted they didnt open the door, hence why the squad took so long to get in hahaha... Scotch Jim & Andy Toole hung around the door area in case of any trouble though. The coffee bar had an old dansette or similar type player in the corner which we played tunes on..but in general , weren't allowed to play stuff which conflicted with the dance-floor upstairs so mainly slower, deep stuff. Do I know you ? pm me ...How many times did you go to Hernies?
  13. first 3 I have are #4000 home is where the hatred is/til my back aint got no bone- Esther Phillips paper label demo #4001 inner city blues/aint no sunshine -Grover Washington Jnr paper label issue #4002 I never found a man/cherry red -Esther Phillips paper label demo I would guess that as the numbering changed, then the next releases would be plastic? but.. Manship then lists #924 as mister magic-Grover Washington which could be a paper label if, he is correct and the next release was both paper & plastic.. #925 what a difference a day makes-Esther Phillips which he has down as both plastic and paper labels. After that I think probably all plastic labels. God knows!!
  14. I have the first three releases of this series on paper labels, but how many more were issued with yellow paper labels? Was Mr Magic-Grover Washington, the fourth release a paper label ? if so has anybody got a paper demo of this ? Also want the second releaseon the label,'Inner City Blues' as a demo I believe 'What A Difference a Day Makes' was issued as both paper and plastic..( I also want the paper release as a demo if anybody has one)

  16. First time I saw this I thought it was rare, but have had it twice more since then and spoken to mates who've seen it also....story I was told is when it was re-issued they ran out of Mowest labels and used TMG labels instead..not sure its true but it doesnt sell for that much .
  17. I worked the espresso machine and played a few tunes in the coffee bar that was on the first floor ..was talking to Stan Spencer when they raided it..He gave them dogs abuse hahaha
  18. I saw them there too Ian..also the Temptations, Arthur Conley and a few others..a good venue in early 70's. Went one night to see the Delfonics but they had cancelled..replaced by a band called either called the Majors or the Majestics!! cant recall now.
  19. Saw Marvin Gaye at Bradford shortly before he died! Did the duet to a backing screen..Amazing! Al Green + Margie Joseph & Oscar Toney Jnr at the Hardrock early 70's were good...the Temps with Dennis Edwards(with Funk Bros backing I think!) were great but would have loved to see the 1965 version as others have said..they would be my dream live act..
  20. If there are any film buffs out there, interested in some black & white/colour movie out-takes, lobby cards & promo photos..give me a pm..I have a folder full of stuff. films include..Escape to Victory, Electric Horseman, Jaws, Jericho Mile, Mathilde, Gregorys Girl, Slap Shot, North Dallas Forty-four, Cannonball Run, Apocolypse Now & The Shootist SOLD..
  21. You mention Frances Nero being not that difficult to find years ago..I agree, I was only speaking about this the other week..I can remember it being a fairly regular 45 to see in various import shops in early 70's. Mind you how many others that are now scarce were like that?
  22. Me .. I bought soul sounds 45's off Jeff King there..
