  1. in response to your thoughts on Leeds Record shops in the 60's Keith.. Kennedys Records , a little shop on the street down the side of the market..An Irish family business that always had a cracking box of Ska and a box of new release/back catalogue Soul behind the counter..also Kitchens downstairs on King Street. Vallances also had a good selection of stuff, usually reliable for LP's..found a great old Vallances card sleeve.. also there was Isherwoods in Thorntons Arcade
  2. yes I believe Saville was long gone by the time it was a mod hang out..I posted the Wakefield Tiffs scan as Rick Vaughan was an old Wheeler and also dj'd at the Spinning Disc (and recently spun a few tunes in Thailand apparently) also the Bali-Hai is mentioned on the ticket scan ..this was Tony Banks slot at Wakefield..The In-Time ticket was merely a nostalgia post Keith, yes it was an older crowd that went there..Derek Barnett, Bernard Furnell, John Tillotson and a few of the old Three Coins crowd I believe, also some footballers etc..Banksy got me in a few times along with Colin Vernon.
  3. haha steady on lads..
  4. OK I understand now haha...no his real name was...?? He claimed to be french /italian etc...think he was Moroccan/Lebanese or Egyptian in reality . He appeared in Leeds in round 71 ish , think he worked in the ragtrade at the time. Was a right nuisance to be honest always trying to buy your records off you and boasting about what he had, when at the time he knew little of the all-nighter scene..learned fast though didnt he? As I say Ian Dewhirst is your man to ask..I think this has been a thread on here before so might be worth searching back also.
  5. you posted whilst I was adding my last post..yes probably that one then, would it be a friday night? I recall going from there to Nottingham for medication then on to Great Yarmouth for the weekend.
  6. Cromford is near Matlock...putting 2 & 2 together, I went to a place in Matlock which was in a pub(maybe in a cellar?) in early to mid 70's...cant recall exactly. Maybe I picked it up there?
  7. whilst looking for old cards and stuff for another thread I found this flyer..not sure where or when to be honest..anyone know..
  8. just remembered at one point it was Michel St Simon.
  9. not sure about the Simon bit but his adopted surname at one point before Soussan was 'St something.or other'....that was while he was living in Leeds early 70's..Ian Dewhirst will know better
  10. Brilliant to see those cards again Keith..had another search but definitely lost my keyhole card..found this little lot though..your New Marquee card is very different to mine.
  11. santa has got mine, wont give me it till xmas day ...bah!
  12. I'm seeing £132 on Amazon!
  13. see my earlier post on this thread Keith regarding the New Marquee..a short-lived but fondly remembered place which not too many went to
  14. I remember that place yes..small shop with a cellar if I recall. I once went in and it must have been Chris told me Elvis Costello had just been in buying run of the mill 60's soul stuff, it was about the time of Costellos 'Getting Mighty Crowded' release..
  15. Tell me more about this 'Chris' who opened a record shop in Leeds please? when was this?
  16. Oscar was amazing that night..I saw him again at the Hardrock not long after, on the same bill as Al Greene & Margie Joseph. No dont think Sam & Dave were on the same bill as Detroit Emeralds were they?
  17. dont recall Doris Troy playing the Torch! maybe she was billed but cancelled?? anybody know? but there again...as I said previously to Kegsy..its all a bit blurred.
  18. Dusty Springfield, Madeline Bell....
  19. Kegs, I forgotten a lot of what happened at the Torch mate, wonder why???
  20. The Wheel allnighter artists are documented..after that..ones I can recall straight off at the Torch..Edwin Starr, Drifters, Sam & Dave, *****Oscar Toney Junior***** , Junior Walker, Major Lance a few times, Stylistics-I think???, ...Barbara Acklin at Droylesden in the early 90's( she had Ruby Winter with her)..the horrible Leeds tram-shed ISC allnighters mentioned previously in another thread the only plus point for me being Mel & Tim..seen loads more just listed the ones that quickly came to mind ..
