  1. I put this on the last cd swap. Not my usual sort of tune but quality without doubt
  2. First time I've seen this. Paul told me he was up for the award but has ignored my queries as to whether he won it or not. I have all been to all but one of Paul's shows and I have to say they are truly amazing. The first one we went to see was in Cambridge and we went there instead of going to Burnley. It was incredible. I came out of there feeling more uplifted than I ever felt coming out of an all nighter. He is changing lives and that is awesome thing to be doing. Nice one Paul!
  3. Always plenty of clapping action at the venues I go to Ok, maybe not so much during the records, but that is because the venues I frequent aren't the ones that favour traditional clapping northern. That said, I do clap to records while I am dancing. But only because I feel moved to, not because the 'past' dictates that I should.
  4. WOW!! How cool is that? Out of curiosity - what was he doing there? Does he live near by? Was it an organised personal appearance? I just find things like this really interesting.
  5. Have to disagree with you there Chris. I love 60s & 70s soul but to my shame the majority of the rest is just not to my taste. I certainly do not wear the clothes and I definitely don't want to hear the same old sounds that were played back then.
  6. How about a grand for the two?
  7. I am involved with a charity for Rwanda and have been for the last ten years. We have a shop in Preston and all profits go directly to the poorest of the poor in Rwanda, regardless of whether they are Tutsi or Hutu. Although all the staff are unpaid volunteers - the rent and utilities on the shop still need to be paid. More often than not here will always be some costs involved. Nothing at all to be ashamed of as they are totally unavoidable in some cases. You just do everything you can to ensure those costs are as low as possible. No one can ask more than that.
  8. I can see where you are coming from and I would agree with you if this thread was about one charity in particular. But it's not. It is about charity events in general. And whether you like it or not there appears to be some not so good ones out there! edit - changed to appears to be as I really am not accusing anyone of anything
  9. And before anyone says anything - I am not accusing anyone of anything. I am just saying those outgoings seem excessive to me. What's the point of having an event for charity if you aren't going to raise any money for that charity.
  10. I apologise, I assumed you had read the thread. I am not saying anything that hasn't already been said on here this week. Have a look at the Wellingborough thread in AATS. The organisers themselves state there is no money for the charity as it has all gone on expenses. All £3,566 of it.
  11. Got any more Cliff, looks like I might have made it a bit heavier
  12. I will probably get my knees slapped for this but what the heck. What about charity events that don't make any money for charity? As in ones that have 600 people through the door at £6 a head who say there isn't a penny of that money to give to the charity because it has all gone on expenses.
  13. To be fair, the topic started didn't mention anything about money raised only whether people had a preference for charity events over everyday events. What about people who come on here advertising events they are holding in aid of charity. Do you think it is out of order to ask them how much they raised?
  14. I thought the thread was quite tame considering the topic. Well it was until your post
  15. What really makes my blood boil is when organisers of charity events get all arsey when someone enquires how much money was raised. Terry dared to ask that question the other day and got a load of abuse and called a for his trouble. I dearly hope I am wrong but when promoters react like that I can't help but think all is not right. People have a right to ask how much money was raised ffs! Whether they were at the event or not.
  16. Any reason why you have singled out my post for your rant? I don't run a charity event, or any event for that matter, and I certainly don't sell CD's!
  17. There is also the issue about which charity it is. Some people won't support animal charities. Whereas others will only support charities that do work in this country. It is an emotive subject. Anything could happen
  18. In an ideal world maybe. But it isn't going to happen. The chances of finding a venue that will waive it's hire fee and donate the bar takings to the cause is going to be nigh on impossible. Unless of course the charity is close to their heart. Do you know a venue that would do that? I don't. It goes without saying that all door takings and DJ's fees should go to the charity.
  19. I would like to say you are wrong Jock, but you are probably right in some cases. Not all though. When I put that do on for Pete last year, I did initially think about putting it on for charity. Well, for all of five seconds. I knew all the hassle it would cause and that it would only detract from the day so I decided to pay for it myself. Charity is a very emotive subject and it has to be done right. Of course there will be costs but these should be limited to essentials such as room hire, equipment, flyers etc. The costs that were incurred at a recent charity event in Wellingborough just seem excessive to me. If you don't make any money out of a night you advertise as being for charity - can you really call it a charity night?
  20. I'm pretty sure the key word here is charity If DJ's aren't prepared to be charitable then all they have to say is I'm a tight wad and I won't do it for nothing. The whole point of promoting a charity event is to raise as much money as possible for charity. I would tell any DJ who expected to be paid to do one! Charitably of course
  21. Makes no difference to me whether it is charity or not. That said, unless it is a charity close to my heart or one that a mate is involved with, it would usually be down to the DJ's that are on as to whether I would go or not. Oh, and DJ's they should not expect to get paid for a charity do. Shame on you!
  22. There was some but they withdrew it. Don't think it got the reception they were hoping for.
  23. Nothing else on the site interest you then?
  24. I can't believe what I am reading here. You want to give your head a shake mate.
