  1. Maria has asked me to share Carl's funeral details on here and to say if you feel comfortable, it would be lovely if you would wear a splash of sky blue for his beloved City Monday 19th August, 2pm - Blackley Crematorium, Victoria Avenue, Blackley, Manchester. M9 8PG. Followed by food and music afterwards at North Manchester Golf Club, Manchester Old Road, Middleton. M24 4PE x
  2. So sad x
  3. Unbelievably sad x
  4. Thanks Mike. The promoter view notice doesn't work for us though, as someone else posts our event up (we hold takeover nights at their venue). Plus there are events on here that have more than one promoter. No real biggie, I'll just continue posting an after the event comment rather than a review x
  5. I hear what you are saying Mike, it's trickers. That said, most promoters aren't going to star their events down are they, they are more often than not going to go for the full five. Maybe get rid of the star rating altogether and just have a written review? Like Chalky said, sometimes they are far from an honest representation of a night - good or bad x
  6. In the past I have given starred reviews for Grumpy and other venues I've had a hand in running, but have a different view these days. I always post afterwards, to thank people for coming, DJs etc but don't feel it right for me as a promoter to give starred feedback. Everyone will think differently of course, but my feeling is that it is down to those who have attended and supported the event to give stars if they so wish x
  7. Jesus, just saw a very energetic, long haired moi prancing about 🫣
  8. Happy birthday Martyn
  9. Like Mike, I had no idea he had passed either. Such sad news x
  10. Fantastic night once again at the fabulous Culcheth Village Club. Walked in at 7.30pm to people already seated waiting for us to start, with only a couple of tables unoccupied by 8.30pm - incredible support on an insanely busy Bank Holiday weekend. Apologies in advance, this will read like an acceptance speech but massive thanks to our esteemed guests Andy Rix and Keith Whitson, both delivered sets with impeccable taste and quality, we salute you. Such a buzz listening to people asking WTF is this? It's the reason we're still here after all these years isn't it, job well done in our book. We must mention Baz for his unending passion and hard work. We understand what goes into putting on events like this, and he does it with a smile x2 every time he puts this night on. We want you to know we appreciate everything you do! Biggest thanks of course goes to you guys, because without you there is no Grumpy. Great crowd, up for it from the very first record to the last, just brilliant. Looking forward to seeing you all in November, along with Carl, for more of the same. Cheers, Joan and Phil x
  11. Great buzz all round for tonight Sorting records out later, will bring a few to play in Mr Lawson's memory x
  12. Yes, Baz has the usual brilliance lined up for the other room Sure he will post the details up when he's next on here x
  13. Not long to go until our second takeover at this awesome venue - the best we've had without doubt! A very busy night on the soul calendar, but only one night has Andy Rix, Keith Whitson, and Phil Threlfall on Enjoy wherever you go, and looking forward to seeing all you Grumpy folk next week x
  14. Certainly fits the first time played at Grumpy category Andy
  15. This is going to be a cracker (Easter egg pun intended). Been talking to Andy and he's promising the full gambit - unissued, rarely heard, mega favourites, and never heard before first time plays - we can't wait! Keith will of course be working his usual dance floor magic, with Phil and I hopefully aiding and abetting. Also realised it will be 31 years to the day that we sadly lost Pete Lawson. I'm sure more than a few of his favourites will be played and stories told on the night in his memory x
  16. This is really sad news, such a good lad x
  17. Very much looking forward to this! Guests for this one are Andy Rix and Keith Whitson, alongside myself and Phil. If you were fortunate enough to attend the Runcorn venue when Andy was on, boy were we treated to a masterclass, a night considered by many to be up there as one of the best Grumpy's ever. We seriously can't wait to have him back, at least his journey will be easier than last time The same with Keith - never, ever, disappoints and knows exactly what the Grumpy faithful loves. We're about good tunes, all night. So, expect your favourites, your rarities, your oldies, your exclusives, your one-offs, your classics, but above all expect quality
  18. Happy birthday Peter
  19. Mighty Lovers cover up
  20. Happy birthday
  21. Happy birthday Chris
  22. How sad, had some mad times in his company x

  24. Not played mine for years but sure it's OK and not off centre x
