  1. Like Mike, I had no idea he had passed either. Such sad news x
  2. Fantastic night once again at the fabulous Culcheth Village Club. Walked in at 7.30pm to people already seated waiting for us to start, with only a couple of tables unoccupied by 8.30pm - incredible support on an insanely busy Bank Holiday weekend. Apologies in advance, this will read like an acceptance speech but massive thanks to our esteemed guests Andy Rix and Keith Whitson, both delivered sets with impeccable taste and quality, we salute you. Such a buzz listening to people asking WTF is this? It's the reason we're still here after all these years isn't it, job well done in our book. We must mention Baz for his unending passion and hard work. We understand what goes into putting on events like this, and he does it with a smile x2 every time he puts this night on. We want you to know we appreciate everything you do! Biggest thanks of course goes to you guys, because without you there is no Grumpy. Great crowd, up for it from the very first record to the last, just brilliant. Looking forward to seeing you all in November, along with Carl, for more of the same. Cheers, Joan and Phil x
  3. Great buzz all round for tonight Sorting records out later, will bring a few to play in Mr Lawson's memory x
  4. Yes, Baz has the usual brilliance lined up for the other room Sure he will post the details up when he's next on here x
  5. Not long to go until our second takeover at this awesome venue - the best we've had without doubt! A very busy night on the soul calendar, but only one night has Andy Rix, Keith Whitson, and Phil Threlfall on Enjoy wherever you go, and looking forward to seeing all you Grumpy folk next week x
  6. Certainly fits the first time played at Grumpy category Andy
  7. This is going to be a cracker (Easter egg pun intended). Been talking to Andy and he's promising the full gambit - unissued, rarely heard, mega favourites, and never heard before first time plays - we can't wait! Keith will of course be working his usual dance floor magic, with Phil and I hopefully aiding and abetting. Also realised it will be 31 years to the day that we sadly lost Pete Lawson. I'm sure more than a few of his favourites will be played and stories told on the night in his memory x
  8. This is really sad news, such a good lad x
  9. Very much looking forward to this! Guests for this one are Andy Rix and Keith Whitson, alongside myself and Phil. If you were fortunate enough to attend the Runcorn venue when Andy was on, boy were we treated to a masterclass, a night considered by many to be up there as one of the best Grumpy's ever. We seriously can't wait to have him back, at least his journey will be easier than last time The same with Keith - never, ever, disappoints and knows exactly what the Grumpy faithful loves. We're about good tunes, all night. So, expect your favourites, your rarities, your oldies, your exclusives, your one-offs, your classics, but above all expect quality
  10. Happy birthday Peter
  11. Mighty Lovers cover up
  12. Happy birthday Chris
  13. How sad, had some mad times in his company x
  14. Had some fantastic nights at Piercebridge over the years, looking forward to more of the same
  15. Not played mine for years but sure it's OK and not off centre x
  16. Might be an idea to check the stage for any rogue items hanging around before Roger's on. Remember when he was on in Carl and Maria's room at Middleton, and he came steaming onto the dance floor with an upright vacuum cleaner in full Freddie Mercury mode
  17. Really looking forward to it
  18. What a shock, and so sad x
  19. WHAT. A. NIGHT. I won't leave a 'starred' review, as I think that's for you guys to give if you so wish, but jeez, talk about blown away. Since covid put an end to things, we've been thinking about putting something on but always wondered if anyone still wanted it. I think last night showed that you do. People were getting seated half an hour before we were due to start, with a full dance floor shouting for more after the last record was played at 2am. Amazing. Massive thanks to Baz for asking us to take over for the night, and to our DJs Carl Fortnum, Lenny Harkins, and Kev Murphy for not putting a tune wrong. But the biggest thanks goes to you guys, you make Grumpy what it is, and you're all flipping brilliant
  20. Thanks Baz, at last it's finally here! Lenny and Co are on fire and on the train as I type, Carl's doing his vocal excercises, Kev's toying with his which side gets an airing dilemma, and Phil's just tempted the Grumpy cat into his holdall, so it's all systems go. There really is such a good buzz about tonight, and that's down to you guys. See you all later
  21. This thread has everything - Michelin level culinary delights, audio selection possibilities, the shocking revelation of Lenny airing his washing line hopping in public, the insider swoop on Carl gargling with honey and lemon pre-night ritual (expect a song or three), Phil has already surpassed double giddy status, and Kev might buckle and be tempted over to the b side Add to that all the texts and calls we've had from people really looking forward to a Grumpy get together, and you have a long overdue pilgrimage of like-minded souls from all corners heading to Culcheth village hall. Good uns the lot of ya!
  22. You're right Bob, I'm not cheerful Be great to see you x
  23. Oh yes, there'll be plenty to go at Saturday night. Carl, Lenny, Kev, and Phil will bring the rare, the fabulous, and everything in between, yours truly the cheap and cheerful. So expect your favourites, your rarities, your exclusives, your one-offs, your classics, but above all expect quality. It's going to be great!
