Massive thanks to everyone for supporting our little night on Saturday. I'm sure you will agree Ady was an awesome guest, classics and obscurities blended together seamlessly, just perfect. Carl was amazing as always and, as is his trademark, threw in a few 'alternate' vocals . Add Phil's choices to those two legends, and I doubt you would hear better records anywhere in the country. Must mention Baz who works tirelessly behind the scenes to make our enjoyment of the night possible. Nothing's too much trouble, always smiling, and goes above and beyond, thanks B. Such a lovely surprise to see Soul Sam at the bar as I was walking round too, and looking so well. Biggest plaudits as always goes to all of you who never fail to turn up from every corner - Midlands, Yorkshire, Scotland, Wales, local and beyond. You're such a great crowd, up for it and on the floor from the first to the last, thank you . Doesn't feel right awarding five stars as I was playing records/co-promoting/lowering the tone (always think it's a bit strange when people rate themselves) so it's four stars for that reason only, but a massive heartfelt five stars for you guys! Actually took some photos of the night, which is a novelty as I never take my phone in, will post them in the gallery at some point
  1. There will be two Hank Hodges and two Appointments in the room tonight (maybe more, who knows with this lot ), alongside many, many others. Not that it's all about expense and rarity, just quality. Hope you make it someday
  2. Lots of lovely messages from folk really looking forward to another Grumpy get together. Times below, see you all later 8-9. P&J 9-9.45 Ady 9.45-10.30 Joan 10.30-11.15 Carl 11.15-12.00 Phil 12-12.45 Ady 12.45-1.30 Carl 1.30-2 P&J
  3. Looking like a great night in store once again. Will post times later but in true Grumpy style, expect quality from the first to the last
  4. There's such a buzz about the next installment and rightly so with the quality that will be delivered by the box load. As alluded to above there will be rarities a plenty, alongside quality from every price point, something for everyone for sure. To say Ady is looking forward to it is an understatement. He doesn't DJ anywhere outside of his hometown these days, and he's genuinely excited to dig deep and join us on Saturday, we're in for a real treat. Add Messrs Fortnum and Threlfall into the mix, what's not to love. In a nutshell then, expect the finest tunage, blasting out of an exceptional sound system, in a class venue, packed to the rafters with the best soul folk, and a dancing cat. Phwoarrrr, see you in a week!
Really enjoyed Saturday night. Lovely to see everyone after so long and I thought the music was fab all night. I must mention the sound system, it really did spoil it for me the other times I visited, but I couldn't fault it at all at the weekend, and it makes such a difference. Great job Chris and team, it sounded fab The four stars are for the fact I was DJing, had to take a star off
  5. Can't wait
  6. Not been out for what seems like ages (probably because it has been ages), looking forward to it
  7. Happy birthday Sandra x
  8. Happy birthday Andy x
  9. Maria has asked me to share Carl's funeral details on here and to say if you feel comfortable, it would be lovely if you would wear a splash of sky blue for his beloved City Monday 19th August, 2pm - Blackley Crematorium, Victoria Avenue, Blackley, Manchester. M9 8PG. Followed by food and music afterwards at North Manchester Golf Club, Manchester Old Road, Middleton. M24 4PE x
  10. Thanks Mike. The promoter view notice doesn't work for us though, as someone else posts our event up (we hold takeover nights at their venue). Plus there are events on here that have more than one promoter. No real biggie, I'll just continue posting an after the event comment rather than a review x
  11. I hear what you are saying Mike, it's trickers. That said, most promoters aren't going to star their events down are they, they are more often than not going to go for the full five. Maybe get rid of the star rating altogether and just have a written review? Like Chalky said, sometimes they are far from an honest representation of a night - good or bad x
  12. In the past I have given starred reviews for Grumpy and other venues I've had a hand in running, but have a different view these days. I always post afterwards, to thank people for coming, DJs etc but don't feel it right for me as a promoter to give starred feedback. Everyone will think differently of course, but my feeling is that it is down to those who have attended and supported the event to give stars if they so wish x
  13. Jesus, just saw a very energetic, long haired moi prancing about 🫣
  14. Happy birthday Martyn
